The refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra Elevation was just spotted testing in the real world with the optional X31 off-roading package and several other goodies.
This 2022 GMC Sierra prototype can be identified as an Elevation model by the stance and wheels, riding lower than the GMC Sierra AT4, while also sporting an Elevation-trim-exclusive wheel design, namely the Black gloss painted aluminum rollers (RPO code RD3). We also know that this Sierra prototype is equipped with the X31 package by the tire spec, which includes Goodyear Wrangler rubber.
Further details this 2022 GMC Sierra prototype include a set of optional vertical towing mirrors, while the glimpses of the suspension and underbody reveal a set of Rancho monotube shocks courtesy of the X31 package, as well as some skid plate underbody protection.
In back, this refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra sports a dual exhaust treatment. While the Elevation trim typically rocks a single exhaust outlet, the addition of the X31 package ups the number of outlets to two.
As a reminder, the X31 package is offered as the “mild” off-roader upgrade in the GMC Sierra lineup, with the GMC Sierra AT4 offered as the more aggressive off-roading setup for dirt-loving enthusiasts.
The full X31 Off-Road package includes the following content:
- Off-Road suspension
- Hill Descent Control
- Skid plates
- Heavy-duty air filter
- Rancho shocks
- X31 hard badge
- Integrated dual exhaust
The refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra is expected to deliver a number of significant changes, dropping in as a mid-cycle enhancement (MCE), per established GM parlance. Updates over the preceding 2021 model year include a new front and rear fascia design, plus a completely new cockpit, with an overhauled dash, center stack, center console, and new storage features. The 2022 GMC Sierra refresh will also include a larger central infotainment screen, and a new gauge cluster with the option for fully digital instrumentation.
Note that this upcoming refresh will only apply to the light-duty 2022 GMC Sierra 1500, while Heavy Duty Sierra models (2500HD / 3500HD) will march into the 2022 model year with only minor changes.
