Chevrolet Camaro Celebrates Its First 10 Years On Sale In Brazil

Following the recent 2021 model-year launch of the Chevrolet Camaro in South America, the muscle car is celebrating its first 10 years on the Brazilian automotive market – the largest one in that region. Over the course of that first decade, the Camaro became the most popular sports car in the South American country.

As a matter of fact, General Motors reports that it has sold more than 6,500 units of the Chevrolet Camaro since the model’s introduction in Brazil at the end of November 2010. This figure not only makes the Camaro the most successful muscle car in the Brazilian market, but also it also ranks it as the best-selling sports car for the past ten years in the country. In fact, demand for the 2021 Camaro has exceeded the company’s estimates.

“The Camaro is an icon that has been evolving to keep up with market changes. Today, it is much more exclusive and technological, but equally desired,” said Product Marketing Manager at GM South America, Rodrigo Fioco, in a press release. “So much so that we just launched a new model and practically half of the annual batch of 90 units was purchased right at the premiere,” he added.

The Chevrolet Camaro was first introduced in Brazil at the end of the 2010 calendar year, coinciding with the return of the legendary nameplate in North America, where the fifth-generation model was just born. That year, the Chevrolet sports car successfully paid tribute to the original design and spirit of the iconic muscle cars of the 1960s, and even received the World Car Design of the Year award in 2010.

Since then, the Chevrolet Camaro has evolved with significant performance enhancements and the latest technological developments. With the arrival of the sixth-generation model on the local market in late 2016, the Camaro boasted significantly improved handling characteristics thanks to General Motors’ award-winning first-generation Alpha platform. That same year, the model celebrated its 50th anniversary with the Fifty series, of which only a batch of 100 units was sold in Brazil.

The 2021 Chevrolet Camaro, representing the sixth model year of the sixth-generation model, hit the Brazilian market in October with an updated front-end design and the latest connectivity technologies, such as OnStar with on-board Wi-Fi hotspot, the most recent iteration of the Chevrolet Infotainment System as well as wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It is only available in SS trim with Coupe and Convertible bodies – and is the only muscle car with a droptop roof on the market.
