General Motors debuted the overhauled (re-engineered and redesigned) 2021 Cadillac Escalade in February, introducing a brand-new fifth generation for the iconic luxury nameplate. Now, according to GM North America president and former Cadillac president Steve Carlisle, there is plenty of interest in the new 2021 Escalade, with more than 6,000 orders placed thus far in the United States.
Carlisle made the comments to media during a recent conference call attended by GM Authority.
“Interest continues to be high,” Carlisle said during the call.
The 2021 Escalade will go into production in the near-term future. The online configurator went live last month.
The high customer interest is well-justified considering the swath of new features, equipment, and technology on offer. In addition to a brand-new interior with significantly more interior and cargo space, the 2021 Escalade features an all-new exterior design with Cadillac’s latest design language. 22-inch wheels are standard, as is vertical rear lighting signatures that pay homage to previous Escalade models. Both a standard-length model and an extended-length Escalade ESV are offered.
Customers get three trim levels to choose from, including the base-model Luxury, followed by the Premium Luxury and Sport per the brand’s latest Y-trim level strategy. Unique interior and exterior details differentiate the trims, with Luxury and Premium Luxury models featuring bright Galvano finishes, and the Sport with black accents. Further finery is possible via the Platinum Package, which is offered as an available option on Premium Luxury and Sport models.
The cabin space features a new 38-inch curved OLED display, which stretches across the dash to cover not only the primary infotainment duties, but also to serve as the driver information center, and digital gauge cluster.
The 2021 Escalade also features Super Cruise, the brand’s hands-free semi-autonomous driver assist system, which enables drivers to remove their hands from the steering wheel during extended highway journeys. Last year, Cadillac added 70,000 miles of available roadways to the system, bringing the grand total up to 200,000 miles.
The 2021 Escalade rides on the GM T1 platform, which allows the vehicle to introduce an independent rear suspension. Two engine options are offered: the naturally-aspirated 6.2L L87 V8, and the 3.0L LM2 I6 turbo-diesel Duramax.

"Over 6,000 Orders Placed" what should we supposed to think about that, is it good a number or bad, or is it beyond expectations or a disappointment?
Seems There Is No End In Site In Yearly Price Increases As Well As Severe Depreciation...I Am Happy For Those Who Can Afford It!
Still think Cadillac should have been the one to go, not Pontiac. They sell how many a year, although they are a ton of profit per unit. Think that's because they are very over-priced. Come down the same line at Chevy's I believe.
For Big SUVS General Motors Are Addicted To Overpricing Them For Profit (Greed)! For Someone Like Myself Who Has Rolled Over To New GM Vehicles Every 2-3 Years The Time Has Come To Hold On To My Vehicles. The Prices And Depreciation Are Now No Brainers In Keeping A GM Vehicle!
Seems like GM has ruined the Cadillac brand with these truck like vehicles and even more so with the europeanizing of the rest of the line up. People who buy Cadillacs are not looking for a sports type car that can go around corners at 60mph and have tight suspensions and stiff seats. They want posh, large opulent luxury cars. cars like bmw and similar that they are trying to emulate just are not even luxury cars by a lot of American luxury car consumers. And this Escalade is a truck, no matter how you slice and dice it. Its too late now, but GM should have taken pontiac and made that the division to take on the likes of bmw and audi. The Pontiac lineup was all sports themed cars. The Trans Am, Le mans, Firebird, Grand Am, etc. All GM would have to have done is up their game and make the Pontiacs offerings a little more upscale. It would have been easier to make that transition for pontiac, than for Cadillac to be transformed from a 100 plus year reputation as a posh, opulent, luxury brand to making what amounts to sports cars and gussied up trucks. RIP- Cadillac
Nobody buys cars anymore. They by Trucks, CUV's and SUV's.
They are built in the same plant but all three, GMC, Chevy and Cadillac have a separate production line.
Cadillac is more profitable than Pontiac so it makes sense to keep Cadillac as a flagship brand.
GM shot themselves in the foot when they had way too many brands before they filed for bankruptcy in 2009 with brands thankfully gone like Saturn, Oldsmobile (been gone since 2001), Hummer, Pontiac, Geo and Saab.
All are Built on the same assembly line.
No they are not. I been to few plants where they had build vehicles, the same vehicle one after another; not have random vehicle models built on the same production line. You seriously think a worker stationed to that line build all three vehicles at once without affecting quality?
They are built on the exact same line . That’s a fact .
This is good. 6k units is a hefty number for pre orders. By the time the Escalade drops, that number will get jacked all the way up. But the just is, were those ordered units base models or mid trim?
Hardly anyone buy the base Escalade which is now the Luxury version. I'm sure majority of them are Premium Luxury, Sport and Platinums in the mix.
Jonathan, How many orders placed for Tahoe and Yukon? S. Kerby
The new 2021 Cadillac Escalade has a distinctive look that was missing from the previous model and it addresses little quirks which should held the Escalade set itself apart from other full size SUVs on the market.
I have already ordered a Sport Platinum Escalade and can hardly wait to take delivery. Should be an incredible ride .
Be sure to test it 1st & have the dealership sign an agreement. I still have a warranty on my 2017 model & the every time I take it in due to the transmission about to throw me out, I’m told there’s nothing they can do. $100k & nothing can be done about a faulty vehicle
Did they fix the transmission issue I’m having with the 2015 - 2020 model? Or will you leave the new customers left on a island with this model too?
@mario, there's a TSB on the 8 speed transmission it. Bring your truck back to the dealer and mention it.
Looks like GM is going to keep on truckin' with the 70% market share for full size SUVs that they've had for a while now.
