Back in May, we reported that the new diesel engine option in the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was delayed over an emissions-related hiccup. But the wait is over, as 2020 Silverado 1500 diesel models are finally beginning to arrive at dealers.
Based on checks with sources at the Chevrolet dealers, various 2020 Silverado 1500 diesel models are up for grabs, including many units in transit plus several units already on the ground at various dealers around the country.
This undoubtedly comes as great news for those interested in grabbing the first light-duty diesel pickup that General Motors has offered in decades.
Under the hood, the 2020 Silverado 1500 diesel uses the all-new the 3.0L Duramax I-6 LM2 turbodiesel engine rated at 277 horsepower at 3,750 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 1,500 rpm. The GM 10-speed automatic transmission provides the cog swaps.
General Motors originally planned to offer a diesel option with the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, not to mention the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. Unfortunately, that plan hit a small road bump, with delays in deliveries caused by emissions approval.
Now, however, the 2020 Silverado 1500 diesel is ready and waiting, for those customers eager to get their hands on one.
We’re certainly happy to see these torque-happy powerplants finally in the mix with the 2020 Silverado. The 3.0L LM2 turbodiesel offers loads of low-end twist, plus plenty of cruising range to boot. Both the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 already offer a diesel option, starting with the 2020 Tradesman 2WD Quad Cab at $38,585 for the Ram, and the 2020 Lariat 2WD SuperCab/Standard Bed at $47,440 for the Ford. Meanwhile, the 2020 Silverado 1500 diesel slots in at $45,200 for the LT 2WD Double Cab / Standard Bed model.
So, check with your local Chevrolet dealer to see if they have a unit in stock. If they don’t, then chances are that they will have some in the very near future.

Can't wait to drive one.
MPG will be a big selling point for this truck. It gets better MPG than a Honda CRV, and can tow 8500 lb.
Only 4 in my State and all of which with a $67K+ sticker on them. Might be a great engine but for that cost i'll buy a 3/4 ton, i have zero interest in the high country awful interior,
Thats a lot of $$$ for a half-ton no matter how you look at it.
I can't see how you found one with a $67K MSRP. I have 4 hard loaded LTZ diesels in transit that have an MSRP of $62K. They have every option I could put on them including sunroof. The engine a $2495 option on the LTZ and High Country due them have a 5.3 V8 standard. It is a $3890 option on the LT and RST since they come standard with the turbo 4. The 5.3 v8 is a $1395 option on those
A 2500HD LTZ and High Country hard loaded are around $75 to $78K.
I picked mine up in Michigan on August 27th. I believe it was the first delivery of the Duramax LM2. I have just over 1,500 miles on it and have been towing and driving a lot of highway miles. It gets a lot better milage that the HD units do and towing a 7,000lb trailer is super easy for it. I'll be towing closer to the limit in a few weeks but so far so good. Not towing I'm getting just over 26mpg, towing just under 13mpg.
Is anyone else having issues with their 2020 1500 Duramax? Bought mine 10/11 and had possession of it 2 days and had to return it. Got it back 2 1/2 weeks later for less than 24hrs and had to return it back to service again. Would not shift up to a higher gear and emissions warnings going off. Has 223 miles on it total. So 3 days in over a months time we had this thing. They said the valve in the transmission is stuck open. They have to replace the valve head. That was over a week ago and they said last night they are still waiting on the part. Even my trials for Sirius FM and OnStar ran out while the dealership has had it. Had to laugh when they called me asking if I wanted to renew and how did I like the service. Told them to ask the service technicians at the dealership cause that is where this truck lives since we bought it. Killed me making the first payment for something I haven't even had. I should have waited to buy until all the reviews on this truck came out in a year. Anyone else having issues?
