General Motors is tipped to make a $150 million investment in the Flint, Michigan assembly plant, according to a report from Reuters on Tuesday.
Details are very slim at the moment, but sources close to the matter told the publication the investment will focus on boosting production of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. The Flint assembly plant, not to be confused with the Flint engine assembly plant, handles production of multiple Silverado and Sierra variants. They include:
The Flint investment, should the sources be correct, would come less than one month after the automaker announced a $24 million investment in the Fort Wayne, Indiana truck plant. Fort Wayne builds the GMC Sierra 1500 in crew cab configuration, alongside the Silverado 1500. It’s also responsible for a handful of HD pickups in various cab and bed configurations. GM also builds some pickups in Mexico.
It would also follow an announcement that GM planned to hire 1,000 new workers to the Flint assembly plant to build the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD and 2020 GMC Sierra HD.
GM CEO Mary Barra wasn’t mentioned in the report, but instead, GM President Mark Reuss is expected to make the announcement at the Flint plant today. Stay tuned as we bring you the latest on the investment news.

No 1500's are built in Flint anymore
E is correct. The 2020 HD trucks are exclusively assembled in Flint. No 1500's built here. Ft. Wayne and Mexico only build 1500 now. No HD's.
Should’ve used the money to retool the Lordtown Ohio plant for the new 2020 Trail Blazer ..just sayin
