Corvette Designer Tom Peters Inducted Into NCM Hall Of Fame

Tom Peters is a well-known face for any Chevrolet Corvette enthusiast. The long-time General Motor designer is one of three new inductees into the National Corvette Museum’s Corvette Hall of Fame.

Peters has a long history with GM Design, but has spent the majority of his career focused on the Corvette. After graduating from Art Center, he was offered a position at GM in 1980. His work quickly caught the eye of Jerry Palmer, former chief Corvette designer, and he brought Peters onto the team.

In his early career, he worked on the C4 Corvette ZR-1, Corvette Indy concept vehicle, and was tasked with coming up with a proposal for the C5 Corvette. This work led him to eventually become the lead design director for the C6 Corvette and later the C7 Corvette. Eventually, he became Director of Design for Performance Car Exteriors for Corvette and Camaro.

“My goal in working on future Corvettes was to create a unique personality that is still distinctively Corvette–with a character and soul that is both new and timeless,” Peters said about his work on Corvette.

Peters’ next task will be the mid-engine C8 Corvette that should debut later this year, perhaps as early as May.

The other two individuals named for induction this year are Briggs Cunningham, a racing driver, and Dollie Cole, wife of former GM President Ed Cole.

The induction ceremony will take place this August and coincide with the NCM’s 25h anniversary celebrations.
