General Motors has filed a trademark application for the term ZR2 Bison with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), GM Authority has discovered.
Filed on April 2nd 2018, the application is assigned serial number 87859549 and is filed under the goods and services category of “Motor land vehicles, namely trucks”.
It appears Chevrolet may have something brewing for the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 and bison. The filing follows a previous filing by General Motors for the Colorado Bison name in 2016.
Details are few and far between, but it appears some sort of special edition Colorado ZR2 could be in the pipeline.
Chevrolet has used the “Bison” name in the past, though we doubt a Colorado ZR2 Bison will bear much resemblance to its predecessor. The Chevy Bison was a Class 8 heavy-duty truck in the late 1970s. Sales of the Bison were disappointing, and Chevrolet’s heavy truck sales ceased in 1981. GMC would continue to sell its version, the GMC General.
We’ve heard an updated Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon are potentially due sometime this year or next, so we may hear and see more of a Colorado ZR2 Bison in the months to come.

I think its awesome to see the name logo bison come back. Although i wish was saved for GM's new venture into medium duty trucks instead of the little colorado . A little automotive history there, i like that. Hell most people didnt know it existed. Working at a GM dealer this is cool that Gm does this every now and then. Will be fun to see a part number come back and we can actually see a bison logo in person and brand new .
