IndyCar Shows Revised Aero Kits For 2018 Season

The Verizon IndyCar Series gave us a small glimpse of its revised Dallara IR-12 car design for the 2018 racing season earlier this year, but today the series gave us more info on the updated racer after showing off its all-new road course and speedway aero kits.

The road course kit (above and directly below), which will also be used on short oval tracks such as Phoenix, retains familiar-looking large front and rear wings. The low downforce speedway kit (at the bottom of the article), is radically different with a small, futuristic looking rear wing and a lack of rear bumper pods. The overall lack of bodywork in both configurations represents a stark contrast to the cars being used this season.

“The newest images give more definition to the sleek and bold look of the universal aerodynamic bodywork kit that will fit to the current Dallara IR-12 chassis in 2018,” the series said on its website Wednesday. “The supplier of the universal kit has yet to be finalized, but the kit has been reverse-designed to start with a look of past Indy car favorites while also incorporating the latest technological and safety advancements.”

Just as in years prior, the engine suppliers for the revised cars will consist of Chevrolet and Honda. The series says it is on track to begin testing the car by mid-summer. Testing will take place at a variety of tracks, with Sebring already having been confirmed due to its bumpy nature.
