Here in the United States, the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV has made a statement after being rated at 238 miles of range by the EPA.
In Europe, though, that figure might be as high as 310 miles of range for the 2017 Opel Ampera-e. Why? It all comes down to how the vehicles are rated by their respective government agencies.
According to Autoweek, the New European Driving Cycle is much gentler in testing with a different driving style from American standards. Testing involves more idle time, constant cruising speeds and much gentler acceleration.
The U.S., however, uses more aggressive acceleration and combines highway and city segments. It also incorporates running the air conditioning during its tests. The two styles paint different pictures of how the Bolt EV and Ampera-e will be treated in their home markets.
But, it also gives Opel some intense marketing firepower.
At a time of year when luxury car ATP usually rises.
