Some Chevy Silverado HD Units Will Need A Transmission Filter Replacement

Certain 2024 Chevy Silverado HD and 2025 Chevy Silverado HD trucks are included in a new Service Update released by GM, related to a field action to remedy an issue with sediment in the truck’s transmission fluid.

As Service Update number N242455950 describes, the affected Chevy Silverado HD units generate the sediment during the Output Shaft bearing press.

GM service personnel are instructed to apply the fix to any 2024 or 2025 Chevy Silverado HD units brought to the dealership by their owner for any reason, as well as to pickups still in inventory. Dealer units are not to be sold or delivered until the remedy has been applied. Before work begins, the Chevy Silverado HD should be viewed in the GM Global Warranty Management system to verify that it is marked “Open.”

To fix the problem, the transmission filter should be replaced by a new unit by dealer service personnel. The filters are in short supply so should not be ordered as shelf stock. To purge the existing transmission sediment, all 15 quarts of transmission fluid should also be drained and replaced. The process takes 1.5 to 2.2 hours depending on the engine. While the vehicle’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty period is active the fix is offered free of charge to current pickup owners.

Notably, a mid-cycle refresh for the nameplate was introduced by the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD, and several additional updates and changes arrive with the 2025 model year. Among these is the addition of the Universal Vehicle Module (RPO code KGU) – enabling upfitters to set up custom functions for their truck – as an option for all Silverado HD trims. Another change is standard Adaptive Cruise Control (RPO code KSG) on the High Country trim, rather than being part of an optional package.

The Silverado cradles one of two powerplants under the hood following its refresh, specifically the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine developing 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque and the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine providing output of 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque.

The GM T1 platform underpins the Chevy Silverado HD for both model years. Production takes place at the GM Oshawa plant in Canada and the GM Flint plant in Michigan.

  • hold up. so when they push the bearing, they did it wrong, scraped the trans casing and drove metal fillings into the trans. those circulated around, some are in the clutches, some in the valve body, some ended up in the filter being picked up. regardless those shavings already did damage and theres more of them in there doing damage.

gm's solution is to replace the filter and call it a day...

    wow.

    WOW.

  • Sounds like the CP4 fuel pump issues that GM wont remedy on HD diesel trucks. Wont buy another GM product.

  • Brand-new 2024 Chevy Duramax Z71 ltz loss power and torque at 1600 miles dealer tells me no codes nothing wrong. This brand-new truck at a tank would be well over 500mi to a tank of fuel. After the loss of power I struggle to get 280-300mi to a tank and at it best average was 20.1 mi a gallon currently 11 miles to a gallon on average since the issue. Dealer says they can't do anything about fuel economy. Not worried about that I'm worried about the truck loss of power and torque it's just a slug like a 20yr old truck already! Tell me nothing is wrong with it bs
