Certain units of the 2021 through 2024 Cadillac Escalade and Cadillac Escalade ESV are included in a new service bulletin from GM, which provides a fix for an occasional no-start issue affecting diesel-powered configurations sold and registered in California.
According to Service Update number N242441450, the affected Cadillac Escalade vehicles may fail to start again following activation of the Auto Stop feature, which switches off the engine when the vehicle is at a full stop, such as when halted at a traffic light.
GM service technicians are instructed by the service update to apply the available fix to affected Cadillac Escalade units brought to the dealerships by owners for any reason. Additionally, the fix must be applied as soon as possible to affected Escalade SUVs currently in dealer inventory, with the sale, delivery, demonstration or trading of affected units forbidden until the fix has been applied.
The remedy is available free of charge through the end of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty period. Service technicians should verify involvement through the GM Global Warranty Management system before starting the repair. The fix consists of reprogramming the Engine Control Module (ECM), a task requiring about 24 minutes to complete and needing no replacement parts.
Affected Cadillac Escalade units are all equipped with the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine developing 277 horsepower at 3,750 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 1,500 rpm. The exact number of vehicles affected by the problem is currently unclear, with only vehicles in California involved in the problem, as noted.
Notably, diesel powerplants and gasoline engines motivating the Escalade make use of the GM 10-speed automatic transmission for cog swaps. Both 2WD and 4WD configurations are available to buyers.
The 2024 Cadillac Escalade is underpinned by the GM T1 platform. Production of the model takes place exclusively at the GM Arlington plant in Texas.

All vehicles with this option should to be changed. What a pain in the...
I believe it’s related to the motor and software not that it’s a Cadillac
My 21 GMC Yukon Has done this about six times in the last 3+ years
I think it’s a dangerous problem and you never know when it will occur and I’ve almost been rear-ended a couple times when it occurred
You must turn everything off restart the car put it in gear drive on
There should be a recall for this problem
Every time I’ve mentioned to the dealer, they look at me like a deer in the headlights have no idea never heard of it before blah blah blah
Yesterday I received The module I purchased that will bypass the auto start
This is the best and simplest solution
If you can’t trust it, you surely don’t want it on your vehicle
Now 3 1/2 years later, we hear about it
why would a diesel have start stop... what why. oh well not like they will sell more than 1 of these.
there is a harness to bypass this garbage (auto turn it off every start) for the 21-24. not sure if it will work on the 25+. we will find out soon. best mod you can do btw. best mod i did.
I agree this is a “universal” problem
I also have a 21 GMC Yukon that it’s done exactly this is about a half dozen times
A couple of those times I was concerned if I was gonna get rear ended, as I sat there, not knowing what to do until I turned everything off and restarted it
This is an important safety issue and must be addressed for all GMC vehicles with the LM2 motor
It is NOT just “Cadillac”/LM2 motor” issue
Can’t wait for the LZ0 2024 to hit production!
