General Motors has released a new service update affecting select Chevy and GMC vehicles, including the Chevy Suburban, GMC Sierra 1500, Sierra HD, and Yukon. Affected units were built without the graphics processor required for proper operation of the digital instrument cluster. To note, only seven units are affected by this service update.
The service update is tagged with service update number N232415790, and was released in January of the 2024 calendar year. The service update affects only seven Chevy and GMC trucks, the majority of which are located in the U.S., while one is located in Kuwait. Vehicles affected by this service update include:
Affected units are equipped with a digital multi-color full cluster display unit (RPO code UDV) that was produced without the provisioning for the graphics processor. In order to fix this issue, dealers are instructed to replace the instrument cluster with a functioning unit.
The exact reason why these units were built with digital display that did not include a graphics processor remains unclear.
Although likely unrelated, GM (and the broader automotive industry) faced a worldwide shortage of microchips between the 2021 and 2023 calendar years. The shortage resulted in a massive cut to production across the industry and billions of dollars lost. To address this issue, GM implemented what was known as a build-shy production strategy wherein vehicles were built without certain features in order to keep production lines moving, with the intent of retrofitting the missing features once additional microchips were sourced. Looking ahead, GM plans to produce its own microchips by the 2025 calendar year in order to circumvent possible future shortages.

Further evidence that nobody should buy anything built during or after the pandemic supply chain failure era. The 2020s will be the last of the 250k mile GM fullsize SUVs...
even 2020's will not see that. Need to go back to middle 90's - early 2000's for the good stuff.
Says 7 units... Probably all rolled off the line together from a bad batch of clusters...
And yet these unions keep crying for more money, they can't even do the d@mn job the first time.
I want the persons job that signed off on these at the end of the line
Considering it's 7 units, there's a good chance it was QC or the whoever pulled it up to them.
Any of you actually read the article? ... 7 units, it says Seven... were found to have the issue.... I don't think this should even warrant an article....
I'm glad someone is willing to tell us that GM is building and shipping vehicles without functioning instrument panels, and not just ignoring it.
Leaving three comments about how this is no big deal isn't useful to anyone, and makes it sound like you want this buried.
I’m not surprised at all. My dad worked for GM for almost 40 years. Many of the guys were high on the line and nothing was ever done. Now my brother-in-law works there. The same thing- coming in high and smoking weed on the line while building vehicles. If they do it in the plants surely they do in any other GM facility. There vehicles are more junk than anything. They don’t last anymore!
Prove it.... GM,UAW agreed years ago,if caught your fired. End of story.
People going straight to the comments and bashing GM without even reading the article. Only 7 units are affected by this recall, only 7! Compare that to Ford being the #1 recalled manufacturer of 2023.
Agree i had a Ford explorer and the worse car i owned everything broke down glad i bought a gmc yukon
Yes agree i hv a gmc yukon 2005 bought in dubai and many people hv stopped me to ask if i wanted to sell,,,,, its my baby 👶
Like merle haggard song, wished a ford & a chevy lasted 10 years like they should. Got a 2014 z71 just replaced transmission at 95,000 mi. & a 2016 Yukon replaced transmission at 90,000 mi. Within the last few months. Disheartening 2023
I hope production will be better for the 2025 as I can,t even bet a new rear bumper for my 2021 yukon with an indefinite backorder and no eta. bummer !
