• We should be hearing big announcements soon about new investments and manufacturing plant construction in Mexico or Canada coming from the big 3.
  GM and Ford and Ram could future proof themselves by having manufacturing facilities in all 3 countries so when the strike happens, they can add a shift the one of the other plants and keep on going.

UAW workers are not overworked and underpaid compared to most everyone else;

• 500 dollars a week for not working why not stay home for as long as you can just like the losers collecting money from the government. The cars they build are more than we can afford so screw it close who cares . I bought a new truck 18 months ago and keep getting car fax that’s it’s worth 20 thousand less that’s pure bullsh!t

• Seems SFain went to the Joseph Stalin school of negotiating. I am worried that we are repeating the March 1996 Dayton brake parts strike. UAW went from 2M to 250k at warp speed.

  • Firestone did it near here too. After a long strike, told the workers it was the final offer and the plant would have to close if not settled. Strikers got to see their hometown plant close and then be bulldozed. Sad for the community, no winners. I see that slab everyday along with the old Chrysler foundry slab, the International Harvester engine plant slab, and many others around. It’s really sad.

• This keeps up my next vehicle will be a Toyota. Not because I want a Toyota, but because if I need a vehicle or a part, I want to be able to acquire said vehicle or part. Not be told, sorry, UAW is on strike.

• What’s wrong with everyone here? What are their alternatives? Keep eating $hit for as long as the companies will feed it to them? I don’t know where anyone else works that are making negative comments but if your bosses are making an exorbitant amount of money, and the company is making record profits but they offer you peanuts and crumbs for a raise and tell you that you should be happy with that what would you do? Just keep your mouth shut and take it. Why so much criticism for workers trying to improve their standard of living? Is it jealousy because they have representation at the workplace and many of you don’t? Unless you’ve performed the same tasks and worked on the same assembly line that they do how can you comment that their jobs aren’t difficult and that they don’t work that hard. We should be supportive of workers taking a stand to improve their workplace not critical!

  • Their alternative? Taking the 20% raise GM offered base minimum for all employees, that was their alternative. If you knew anything about higher ups, it's that they'd rather see the company go bankrupt than lose some of their wage, they can live off the money they've already earned, or go to another company, one without a union.

    • I’m not sure what “higher ups” you are referring to FL Man but if you are referring to the “higher up” within the Union structure I am extremely familiar with how it works. Maybe YOU think that they should take the 20% offer but maybe they don’t feel that it’s adequate. I’m sure that there are many issues on the table including the two tiered system that keeps the lowest tier quite a bit lower. When they come to terms, and they will eventually come to terms, the membership will have the opportunity for a ratification vote. They either accept it or not. And if they don’t like how the Union represented them or if they feel that the Union led them down the wrong path, they get the opportunity to vote them out. Union elections are regulated by the US Dept of Labor. It is of no advantage to the Union for the companies to go out of business or go BK.

  • You think making $80,000 + $30,000 worth of medical/dental/eye benefits + profit shares and more per year for driving a forklift isn't enough pay? And they should be given a 36% raise for only four days of work? From a company that is NOT making record profits because they have to invest more than what they are making into EVs, and the shareholders aren't even getting paid. You're nuts. Tons of people would die for a job like that in its current state, much more with the 20% GM has already offered along with 5 weeks of vacation and 18 paid vacation days and much more.

    You can see videos of the jobs these workers do. Tons of people work actual hard physical labor jobs for twelve hours a day for much less money and much less benefits.

    And ending tiers is incredibly insulting to employees who have worked the job for years. It is entirely normal in jobs and is common sense.
