2023 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV Recalled For Rear Suspension Bolt Fracture

GM has issued a safety recall for certain units of the 2023 Cadillac Escalade and 2023 Cadillac Escalade ESV full-size luxury SUVs over an issue with the rear suspension.

The problem: a supplier provided GM with rear suspension bolts for the rear-suspension outer-camber control arm assembly that may not have been properly heat-treated. These incorrectly heat-treated suspension bolts may weaken during use over time and potentially fracture.

The hazards: the incorrectly heat-treated suspension bolts, which may be fitted to either the right or the left side of the outer-camber control arm on the 2023 Cadillac Escalade or 2023 Cadillac Escalade ESV, may fracture and misalign the rear wheel, increasing the overall risk of an accident or crash.

The fix: since either or both rear suspension bolts can be affected, GM has instructed dealers to replace both rear suspension outer control arm bolts. The General will pre-ship an initial supply of Rear Suspension Adjust Link Bolts, part number 11603317, to dealerships known to have affected Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV units on their lots. This pre-shipment started on September 21st, 2023.

Note: a hold has been placed on all affected 2023 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV units currently in dealer inventory until the appropriate fix has been applied and properly registered with GM. Using a potentially affected Escalade for demonstrations, trading it to another dealership, or selling it is illegal under federal law until it has been properly repaired.

Affected components: rear suspension adjust link bolt.

Affected vehicles:

Number of affected vehicles: GM believes a total of 223 vehicles are affected. This includes both the Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, along with other full-size GM SUVs of the 2023 model year.

Owners should: the recall notice seems to indicate that no affected Cadillac Escalade units have actually been delivered to customers at this point, with all units possibly still in dealer inventory. However, any Cadillac Escalade owner who has one of the affected units and wishes for further information can contact Cadillac customer service at the telephone below.

    • Sounds to me like their QC is working well. 223 units recalled. They caught the problem quickly. They sample test, so they are sampling fairly often.

      • Agree, but a competent supplier wouldn’t have made the mistake in the first place and should have caught it, but didn’t and fortunately GM caught it for them. The supplier should definitely be punished and liable for all of GM’s recall and repair costs.

        • A competent supplier could certainly have made the mistake, but, you're right, a competent supplier would have caught it. Wonder if the supplier's QC did catch it, but somebody decided, for whatever reason (likely bad PR), not to address it? If so, that was a very bad decision.

The supplier will most likely be held responsible for all financial and legal costs associated with its mistake.

  • Not clear from the article who caught the mistake. Did the supplier catch it and inform GM? Or did GM catch it? Seems most likely the supplier caught it, since there's no reason for GM to make itself aware of the problem--unless the part failed while a GM employee was driving an affected Escalade. Or, I suppose, the part could have been randomly tested at an assembly plant.

Regardless, seems like a pertinent question for the writer of the article to have asked.

  • Remember 20 years ago when the Chi Coms were counterfeiting grad 8 hardware and trucks were failing ? I guess it’s the same all over or Mary just went to the Chi Coms to fatten her bonus.
