SGMW, a joint venture between SAIC, GM, and Wuling, officially launched the Baojun Yep EV late last May, offering Chinese buyers an all-new, all-electric mini crossover. Now, the Baojun Yep EV is getting a full video review, with the reviewer calling the mini crossover uncomfortable, impractical, expensive, and, funny enough, amazing as well.
The video review was posted by YouTube car reviewer Wheelsboy, and clocks in at a little over eight-and-a-half minutes, covering the exterior, the powertrain, the interior, and driving impressions.
The first thing to grab us about the Baojun Yep EV is the way it looks, with a tall, square body, boxy fenders, and two doors. It’s a classic utility vehicle shape, and it helps to maximize available space inside the cabin. And that’s important, because this thing is also quite small, measuring in with a 2,110 mm (83-inch) wheelbase.
Baojun is also offering a few interesting options to enhance the Yep EV’s utility and capability, including a roof rack and all-terrain tires. That said, the reviewer says the Baojun Yep EV doesn’t really offer much in terms of off-road worthiness. Although the Baojun Yep EV has more ground clearance than the other vehicles built on the same platform, there’s only about 15 cm (5.9 inches) of ground clearance total.
As for the powertrain, the Baojun Yep EV is juiced by a 28.1 kWh battery pack, which sends electrons to a rear-mounted electric motor. Range per charge is set at 303 km (188 miles) according to the China Light Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). The battery pack also supports quick-charge capabilities, with the manufacturer stating the pack can go from 30 to 80 percent charge in about 35 minutes.
Among the big highlights are the tech features, which include an optional LED panel mounted on the tailgate that can be used to display text and images. The cabin also features available twin 10.25-inch LED displays, as well as Bluetooth, voice control, and a 360-degree camera.
