GM’s All-New Baojun Yep EV Officially Launches In China

Three months after the world debut of the all-new Baojun Yep EV, SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) has just officially launched the Baojun all-electric mini crossover in China.

The Baojun Yep fully electric mini crossover is now on sale in China.

General Motors’ second joint venture in China launched the all-new Baojun Yep EV during a special event on May 25th in the Asian country, officially and immediately introducing the vehicle to the Chinese market. The new Yep EV ushers in a new business phase for Baojun, debuting the next evolution of its corporate design language and updated Diamond Standard logo.

Notably, the all-new Baojun Yep EV is the first all-electric utility vehicle developed by SGMW and introduces a new category of zero-emission small crossovers to the Chinese market. In fact, the Yep EV is based on a new elevated variant of the Global Small Electric Vehicle (GSEV) platform that supports the rest of the manufacturer’s electric vehicles, adapted for taller models and with off-road capabilities.

As previously reported, the all-new Baojun Yep EV sports a striking two-door boxy body with a mix of modern and retro styling elements that the joint venture officially calls “Square Box.” The model stands out for its distinctive lighting signature with dash-shaped headlamps and for the innovative Car-watch tailgate concept. For its part, the interior design adopts the young and highly connected Joy Box format.

On a mechanical level, the Baojun Yep EV is equipped with a standard rear-wheel drivetrain, including a single permanent magnet motor developing 50 kW or 67 horsepower. The Yep EV’s powertrain is fed by a 28.1 kWh capacity battery that certifies a range of 303 km or 188 miles on a single charge according to the China Light Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).

The all-new Baojun Yep EV is now available for sale at the entire network of official dealers of GM’s youngest brand in China, the only country confirmed so far where this new model will be marketed. The Yep EV launch lineup for the Chinese market consists of two trim levels available in a choice of five exterior colors, as well as a full level of standard equipment.

Here is pricing for the two versions of the all-new Baojun Yep EV in China:

  • Yep EV Ultimate: 79,800 yuan (about $11,280 USD at current exchange rates)
  • Yep EV Zhizun Edition: 89,800 yuan ($12,690 USD)

  1. This thing has better door panel materials than the new Trax…

  2. Yet again, a great design that could be easily homologated for the NA market as a nice little around town backup vehicle, yet we will never see it here. Why do I keep falling in love with these kinds of little buggies only to have heartbreak all over again?

  3. gm, please please please bring this to the states. at this same price point. A brand new, 12k EV would kill over here.
