The recent GM Investor Day presented the direction in which the Detroit-based automaker is headed over the next few years. In addition to financial news, information on upcoming vehicles was shared, including confirmation that GM is working on the next generation of the Chevy Traverse crossover.
As announced by GM President Mark Reuss, the upcoming third generation of the full-size crossover is scheduled to launch during the 2023 calendar year, meaning it should arrive as a 2024 or 2025 model. Underneath, the next-gen Traverse will continue to ride on the GM C1 platform, which underpins all of GM’s mid-size and full-size crossovers.
“A nice enhancement for this, obviously a very popular three-row vehicle, high-volume, right in the heart of the market, right below the Tahoe in terms of size, but very much more trucklike as we introduce the refresh of that,” Reuss commented.
Attentive readers may recognize that this announcement comes not long after a redesigned 2022 Chevy Traverse was released. It’s important to understand that the current Traverse generation was released for 2018, with this mid-cycle refresh originally slated for the 2021 model year. However, due to complications caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, GM was forced to postpone the refresh until the 2022 model year.
Several other new products were confirmed at the GM Investor Day presentation. Among these include a next-gen Chevy Equinox, as well as two new high-performance variants of the C8 Corvette, expected to be the the C8 Corvette ZR1 and C8 Corvette Zora.
As a reminder, the current 2023 Chevy Traverse is features the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LFY gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, and mates to the GM 9-speed automatic transmission.
As previously touched on, the current Traverse rides on the long-wheelbase variant of the GM C1 platform, which also underpins the Chevy Blazer, the GMC Acadia, the Cadillac XT5, the Cadillac XT6 and the Buick Enclave. Meanwhile, production takes place at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan.

Can we get a Z71 edition with a 1” lift on 32’s? And an RS edition that’s actually sportier than the regular 😂😂
After that id love to see an edition of the 2.7T. I’d actually prefere an updated 3.6 with the VVL tech, but it’s looking more like the 2.7 is phasing the V6 out. Only thing is the transmission can’t handle much more than 300ft lbs of torque so that needs addressed.

Glad to see an updated version of the current Traverse is coming soon. ICE options will still be a favorite among consumers, despite coming EV models. The Traverse has been a good value for families needing a larger SUV. I had my 2011 for ten years, made several long distance trips without a single problem. I like the current model, maybe I should order one soon. A lot of bang for the buck! Very reliable and handsome.
Can't wait to see what electric monstrosity they try to shoehorn into this thing, probably with a 15K premium over a standard model.
My three wishes for the upcoming new Traverse.
One: 2.0T as Base and 3.0T as an option....GM needs to stop using the now ancient 3.6
Two: Offer an All terrain version (I know that is what GMC used before but they do not anymore) those are super popular now. Chevrolet needs that for all of their Crossovers not just the Traverse. Some have said the Activ nomenclature but I think that should be used for the Offroad looking packages but with no actual Hardware upgrades for the Chevrolet Brand.
Three: Nice modern interior with soft touch materials everywhere. Stop it with the Fischer Price Plastics already.
The 3.6 is leaps and bounds better than the 2.0t. Also don't forget it likes 87 and the 2.0 wants 91 octane.
I'm pretty sure the 3.6 is a newer design than the 2.0t as well

Not a fan , never will be of front wheel drive, Needs to be rear wheel drive , base it off the Colorado to complete with 4runner ,grand Cherokee, explorer just saying
I like rwd but fwd offers better packaging capabilities and you have to look at the market this is made for. Fwd works better for this model.
Go to rear wheel drive and base it off the Colorado, go attack 4runner , grand Cherokee and explorer lot of us don’t like front wheel drive
wife has a 2020 Acadia V6 with all wheel drive .great car. Perfect size now. Hope they keep the v6 with 9 speed
