The 2022 GMC Yukon may automatically turn on the primary headlamps during the daytime, rather than the Daytime Running Lamps. Luckily for those 2022 GMC Yukon owners affected by this issue, a cause and fix have been identified.
Per a recent post from GM TechLink, some units of the 2022 GMC Yukon will activate the primary headlamps during the daytime when the headlamp switch is set to Auto. The issue is a result of programming in the Body Control Module (BCM), which is used to monitor ambient light levels to determine if conditions are appropriate for either the Daytime Running Lamps or the primary headlamps.
In order to fix this issue, GM TechLink recommends that customers update the BCM software, which may be available via an over-the-air (OTA) programming event. Customers are encouraged to monitor the vehicle’s infotainment system for possible software updates.
Notably, the 2022 Chevy Tahoe and 2022 Chevy Suburban may exhibit a similar issue. The fix for the issue is identical as that for the 2022 GMC Yukon, as outlined above.
The 2022 GMC Yukon is the second model year of the latest fifth-generation SUV, and is offered with three powerplant options, including the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax, rated at 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
All three engines pair with the GM 10-speed automatic transmission. Under the body panels, the 2022 GMC Yukon rides on the GM T1 platform. Both a standard body-length model and extended-length GMC Yukon XL are offered, the latter of which is 225.7 inches long, as compared to the standard-length model’s 210.7-inch overall length. GMC Yukon production takes place at the GM Arlington plant in Texas.

Thank you very much for this article on the headlights coming on during the day. On my '22 Yukon Denali, I noticed this happening more then not. It seems to happen always when it's sunny and bright. At times I can tell from the dashboard notification they switch from running light to headlight and back several times while driving. I asked the service writer at my GMC Service dept about this, and the response was that ""I should read the owners manual as there is probably a setting"" . Obviously the writers at GM Authority are more knowledgeable then the GMC dealership service departments.
Everyone should read their owners manual multiple times. You will then know what to do in cases like this. Simple.
This is the second or third article recently that you guys have issued that has just switched the car model. This is low level journalism.
Why do you think that they produce manuals? Oh! I know. To take up space in the glove compartment.
