GM has issued a Service Update to address an issue on certain 2022 model-year Cadillac XT4 vehicles that may cause the visual telltale for the vehicle’s parking assist system to become inoperative.
The problem: Cadillac XT4 vehicles equipped with Front and Rear Park Assist and/or Enhanced Automatic Park Assist will display a visual telltale in the driver information cluster, alerting drivers of how close they are to surrounding objects and ensuring they are aware that the park assist system is functional. An issue with the instrument cluster (or Driver Information Center) may cause this visual telltale to become inoperative, prompting the Service Bulletin.
The hazards: the parking assist visual telltales help communicate to the driver how close they are to surrounding objects. The telltale includes a distance indicator, which will turn yellow, orange, and then red as the vehicle gets closer and closer to objects. If this visual telltale is inoperative, drivers may not be aware of how close they are to surrounding objects, or how rapidly they are approaching them. It’s worth noting the system also plays an audible beep when the parking assist system is active, which will beep progressively faster as the vehicle approaches an object.
The fix: GM technicians will be instructed to perform a configuration and setup procedure on the instrument cluster. This will restore the system’s settings and make the visual telltale for the parking assist system operative once again.
Affected components: Driver Information Center (DIC).
