2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1 Battery Weighs 2,923 Pounds

The 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1 is a very heavy vehicle, with the battery-electric truck tipping the scales at a frankly absurd 9,063 pounds. That’s not the only eyebrow-raising weight figure related to the Hummer EV, however, as the weight of the 246.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack is even more shocking.

According to a GM document filed with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency this week, the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1’s battery pack tips the scales at 2,923 pounds. That’s heavier than the vast majority of modern-day compact cars, including a 2017 Chevy Cruze LS Automatic, which weighs in at just 2,870 pounds.

As we reported earlier this week, the GMC Hummer EV has EPA-certified efficiency ratings of 43 MPGe highway and 51 MPGe city for a combined rating of 47 MPGe. This is a rather low energy use rating for a battery-electric vehicle, however the GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 has a near-1000 horsepower powertrain and is loaded with virtually every available option and feature, reducing its efficiency.

As GM Authority reported previously, the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 boasts a GM-estimated range figure of 329 miles. This range figure applies to the Edition 1 launch trim level only, which comes standard with rather heavy off-road wheels and large 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory off-road tires. We expect future GMC Hummer EV trim levels, like the soon-to-be-released EV3X, to offer slightly better range and efficiency thanks to smaller wheels/tires and the presence of fewer features.

The GMC Hummer EV3X will arrive in the fall of 2022 with prices starting at $99,995, while the EV2X will be available in the spring of 2023, starting at $89,995. The entry-level Hummer EV2 will arrive in the spring of 2024 priced from $79,995. As we noted previously, these models will feature different battery and powertrain combinations and will likely thus have different EPA ratings for both range and efficiency.

Production of the GMC Hummer EV Pickup takes place at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan, which will also eventually build the GMC Hummer EV SUV, as well.

        • USA1 would try ... another cold war brings more attention to ... than ... climate balance ... if humans can balance planet and universe own trajetory and if and EV car like this huge truck is ... me... do not believe GM only electric is the answer, but your president thinks so

    • ... interesting that instagram Design GM had many interesting pics about Escalade drawing of a supposed designer Andrew with a very tall concept, other day a retired guy showing how with markers was and so on but it did not appeared here... if they are out of recent news ... do not understand the why... however was in expectation

    • don't pretend like this is actually going offroading. I know 1 person with a TRX and 2 people that have owned 4 Raptors between them and none of them have ever driven on anything more than a gravel road. The "EV offroad" criticism is baseless for a vehicle like this. A $100k factory offroad bruiser is about looks, not function.

Of course there are a few exceptions, they are very much the minority

  • 1. ... and how much weight without Batteries in Kg ? or tons ? it is what understand
    2. ... Pounds sounds like those women make-up to powder the face in red or orange.

  • Look if you want one fine buy one if you hate it don’t buy one.

GM is selling this and will draw a lot of income from their sales making other models cheaper sooner for average buyers able to buy what fits their lives.

The harsh reality it to pay off development cost via a Bolt or Volt is a difficult act.

Much like the performance found in a Camaro was paid off by Corvette owners at a higher price.

I don’t get all the complaints. I hate Tesla so I refuse to buy simple!
