2021 GMC Yukon AT4, SLE, New Features Start Production In September

The 2021 GMC Yukon arrives as an all-new fifth generation for the nameplate, offering up fresh styling inside and out, advanced features, and class-leading technologies. Production of the SUV is already underway, but limited in terms of trims and features per the vehicle’s launch schedule. Now, GM Authority has learned that Phase 2 production for the 2021 Yukon will begin September 7th, 2020, and that means more trims and options are now available to order.

While originally scheduled to start production in May, the 2021 GMC Yukon eventually hit production in late June alongside the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe at the GM Arlington Assembly plant in Texas. Production of the extended-length 2021 GMC Yukon XL began July 13th, while the first examples of the 2021 GMC Yukon began rolling into dealerships around July.

We’ve covered the 2021 GMC Yukon launch schedule in-depth in a previous post, but here’s a quick recap.

Phase 1 production only included SLT and Denali trim levels, with build configurations limited to just four total, including two build configurations for SLT models, and two build configurations for Denali models.

Now, Phase 2 expands ordering to SLE and AT4 trims. AT4 trims are limited to two build configurations, while Phase 2 for Denali is limited to three build configurations, up from the two build configurations from Phase 1.

Additionally, key new features are now available to order, including the Power Sliding Center Console, Air Ride Adaptive Suspension, and Active Response 4WD system.

Orders are now open for dealers, opening up as of last week, August 6th.

Looking ahead, restrictions will lift roughly mid-October, which means all trims and features will be available to order. The exception to this will be the new 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine option, which will be available in November, as GM Authority reported previously.

As a reminder, the 2021 GMC Yukon rides on the all-new GM T1 platform.

  • I can’t believe they made a nearly perfect SUV.

Then left out the rear locker...a feature that’s been available on the Yukon since the beginning.

This is not going to handle the boat ramp we’ll without one. GM needs to address this ASAP.
