2021 GMC Yukon Now Arriving In Dealerships

Back in January, the 2021 GMC Yukon made its grand entrance in Vail, Colorado, dropping into the full-size premium SUV segment with an all-new fifth generation. Now, the first examples of the new Yukon are arriving in dealers, with fresh walkaround videos of the updated utility vehicle now hitting the web.

Some of the videos include narration that gives a rundown of the 2021 GMC Yukon’s various features and updates, and provides a nice baseline for fans and prospective buyers to get comfortable with the new SUV.

Production for the 2021 GMC Yukon kicked off last month at GM’s assembly facility in Arlington, Texas, following a two-month shutdown resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. The plant is currently running at 25 percent capacity, limited to just the new GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Tahoe, while production of the new Yukon XL, Chevrolet Suburban, Cadillac Escalade, and Cadillac Escalade ESV are expected to kick off later this summer.

As we reported previously, the 2021 GMC Yukon launch schedule includes SLT and Denali trim levels as the first models out the gates. SLT models are expected to comprise just 10 percent of units produced, while Denali trims will take up the remaining 90 percent. The second phase is expected commence 13 weeks after Start of Regular Production (SORP), and will include additional build configurations and trim levels. Check out our previous coverage linked above for a complete breakdown of the launch schedule.

Among the many new features on offer is the 2021 GMC Yukon rear media system, which adds in a pair of high-resolution 12.6-inch diagonal LCD touchscreens to the backs of the two front seats. Each screen can be configured to display customized content for either passenger. Pricing for this system comes to $1,995 for Denali trims (offered as a standalone option), and $2,490 for the SLT trim (offered in conjunction with the Rear Media And Nav Package).

Although the extended-length 2021 GMC Yukon XL has yet to hit production, we already got a look at it in SLE trim late last month. As a reminder, the XL model adds 15 inches to the SUV’s overall length, enhancing available cargo space.

  1. Could it kill GM to put the little thumb paddles in the c6 corvettes had to shift gears in manual mode? That whole gear button cluster including the upshift and down is asinine. Can’t imagine reaching out of my seat trying to find the downshift button taking my eyes off the road. Otherwise the truck is a beauty

    1. The Yukon has a 10 speed transmission! Can you imagine trying to decide which gear you want to shift to? Even with shift paddles? Let the computer do the shifting!!

  2. Maybe GMC should take a page from GMC Terrain by making the 2.0L 4-cyl turbo as being the standard engine for the GMC Yukon especially if they gave a cash discount because no one wants to pay for more power (except for FMC and Ford).

  3. Would like to have one for the fall surf fishing season. These things bring all of the comforts of home. I was leery of using a vehicle with AWD on sand but the Yukon I’m presently driving has no trouble at all on the beach. That purchase in 2016 was a leap of faith the first time airing down and driving onto the sand. I have always flushed the vehicle underneath after driving on the beach and have not experienced a corrosion problem in over forty years. The surf fishing thing is my sole surviving indulgence so why not go in utility, comfort and style?

    1. Possibly August (?). Resurgence of COVID-19 might slow things down. I hope yours does come through. I’m looking at early-September. Fingers crossed.

  5. Waiting for the 2021 with supercruise. This vehicle is gorgeous. Granted my kids will probably make it ungorgeous.

  6. I know this is a late entry! The 2021 GMC Yukon Denali DOES NOT have am assist handle on the A pillar like previous iterations. The Yukon SLT, on the other had, DOES have this! What is GMC thinking?? A lot of potential owners of Yukon Denalis are older adults who just might need this! Oh, and the Cadillac Escalade doe not have an assist handle on the A pillar either! My wife and I are investigating whether the appropriate trim piece with the handle for the SLT can be fitted into the place on the A pillar on the Denali. The only interior color that both models share, besides the jet black, is the Very Dark Ash Gray/Dark Walnut for the Denali and the Dark Walnut/Slate on the SLT. Since the walnut color is on the dash and the A pillar I think it could work. What a pain!!
