GM President Mark Reuss Receives Industry Leadership Award

General Motors president Mark Reuss has been given an SAE Foundation Industry Leadership Award for his career accomplishments and philanthropic efforts.

Reuss was named president of GM in January of this year after formerly leading the company’s product department and helping to lead Cadillac’s global growth initiatives. Reuss is a life-long GM employee and has held numerous executive leadership positions with the company, including executive director of the automaker’s performance division and chairman and managing director of Holden, among more. His role was recently expanded, with the 55-year old now overseeing all of the company’s operating regions, including North America, South America, China and International.

In a prepared statement, the SAE Foundation said Reuss “is recognized for leading advancements in global automotive product development and engineering as well as his philanthropic commitments to revitalizing the Detroit metro area.” Some of his charitable efforts include spearheading a $27.1 million grant to the United Way for Southeastern Michigan to improve graduation rates at Detroit-area high schools and helping establish the GM Student Corps, an internship and career development program for youth in Detroit and Flint. He also helped bring the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix back to the city, which has had a major economic impact on the state of Michigan.

Mark Reuss embodies the spirit of our Industry Leadership Award and we’re proud to honor him with this recognition. His enthusiasm and meaningful contributions to the mobility industry serve as an inspiration that our future leaders aspire to for years to come,” added SAW Foundation director, Lori Gatmaitan. “Not only has Mark made significant contributions to the mobility industry through his roles at General Motors, but he has also championed the development of the mobility community and future automotive engineers by spearheading events and creating student development programs for underserved youth in metro Detroit and Flint.”

The SAE Foundation says Reuss will be formally recognized with the lifetime achievement award at the SAE Foundation Annual Celebration on May 14, 2020.

  • Well deserved in my opinion !!

And I do not !! want to sound degrading here but.

The GM performance division is truly GREAT !! Just truly GREAT !!! Just awesome !! Truly awesome !!!

So why is the average GM product just barely " Good Enough "

Cadillac V series !! GREAT, just GREAT !! other than the same old CUE troubles etc. but the drive platform, just GREAT !!

    And the new Corvette,

    WOW, just WOW !!!

So again, why cant GM have ONE, just ONE midsized anything with better than " Good Enough " performance ?

GM can build so, so many performance vehicles and performance powerplants, yet not ONE midsized vehicle in that category !!!

Sure a Cadillac V series, if you want a race vehicle, but ALL the rest of the standard Cadillacs are underpowered.

Was there a deal with the devil that the masses got " Good Enough" and the 1% of vehicles sold got all the power ?

Someone here that's a GM person could explain how this happened !!

Maybe Mark himself !, Just do a sit down with someone and explain why, the full-sized lineup at GM and the performance lineup at GM have such great power and performance, yet if you want a midsized GM vehicle from ANY of the brands, you get " Good Enough ".

Seriously, the most sold vehicle on the road today is ----- a midsized SUV ------ yet GM offers a 2.0T or a 3.6 NA. DUDS, just " Good Enough "

Just explain why, because all I see is GM not having a clue what the customer wants !!
    Really, did the Cadillac customer want a XT4 and XT6 with a 2.0T and a 3.6 ?

So good job Mark, in the areas that you focused GM has great products !!!!

But you should have let JDN show you how to do luxury because these new Cadillacs are NOT " Good Enough "
    Well, that CT6 V is great !!!

Just more opinion based off the horrible GM customer support !!

    • He's being led by a nose ring and Barra has the leash in here grubby little paw....

      Award for ??? Being Mary's biotch ....

Really people blowing smoke up there own A$$...

      ???
      .

  • He's the main reason Johan got kicked out from Cadillac. He basically killed any chance of a Cadillac comeback.

  • I just don't get it.

The C8 as a Cadillac then every other Cadillac put forth had ABOVE average performance and top that off with the high end V series POW.

I would have thought the money would just be pouring into GM, with Cadillac sales through the roof !!

But how did it get to a Cadillac continuing with the average GM blah " Good Enough " SUV ?

Now GM top expect Cadillac people just to move into the to expensive EV market ?

I guess the Escalade will have to do it for Cadillac for the next 5 years !!!

But I do not see it in the Cadillac midsized market. Not with the offerings there now.

At least with a midsized Cadillac SUV EV it will have the performance a Cadillac should !!!

So we will wait another 5 years, not sure I can keep the old ATS on the road that long !!

2024 will be our usual vehicle upgrade 10 years.

    What will Cadillac have?

Hope its better than the average GM blah " Good Enough " stuff Mark has let them have today !!

    In my opinion.

  • award for what --producing Good Enough is not OK --killing Sedans that some people don't want Suv s --cheap interior material -- underpower engine--poor option packages -charging extra for different exterior and interior colors ,,,again award for what????

  • Yes achievements under his belt have been huge!

    1) Redesigning two lackluster pickup trucks that have been relegated to 3rd place in sales
    2) Worst in class interiors
    3) Culling Opel
    4) Killing off 80% of it's sedans at once creating product holes you could fit an Escalade through
    5) Selective advertisement focusing only on the massive profit makers
    6) Placing it's entire future in electric and self driving at the cost of current product
    7) A new Vette with no stick
    8) Investing oodles of money into the production of the CT6 and Blackwing V8 and then killing it (A GM trademark)
    9) Numerous lackluster product launches and MCE's
    10) "It's good enough" attitude, especially with Cadillac

  • Maybe he should get an award for nepotism. Like long GMer who’s daddy got him the job and pushed him up the ladder.

And let’s not forget about closing plants in the USA and moving products to Mexico so the GM elite can make obscene salaries and bonuses.
He and the rest of the leadersheep should be removed before they finalize GMs demise.
