As soon as a vehicle drives off the dealer lot, its value usually plummets. Given the current state of the new and used car market, resale value is more important to prospective buyers than ever before. To help consumers decide which vehicles lose less value than others, J.D. Power has just released its 2025 ALG Residual Value awards, and the GMC Hummer EV is among the honored.
The GMC products that make the cut this year are the Hummer EV Pickup, Hummer EV SUV, and Sierra 3500 HD. GMC is one of three brands with three models on the list, alongside Honda and Subaru. Unsurprisingly, Lexus and Toyota are the resale value champs with five and four models on the list, respectively.
For those keeping score, that also makes it the best-performing GM brand on the list. Other GM models to receive the award include the Cadillac Escalade and Chevy Corvette. No Buick models got the honor this year.
“The top brands consistently employ a balanced strategy with regard to trim levels, powertrains, and pricing, which helps bolster residual performance and long-term value for consumers who are shopping in a highly competitive market,” Managing Director of ALG Customer Success at J.D. Power Danny Battaglia said in a statement.
To evaluate vehicles for its residual value awards, J.D. Power’s ALG division looked at 16 different brands giving out awards in 33 segments. The award process consisted of evaluating 311 models through analysis of used-vehicle performance, brand outlook, and product competitiveness. Eligibility requires an automaker to have model line entries in at least four different vehicle segments, so niche startups and exotic brands were excluded.
Some changes for the 2025 GMC Hummer EV include the official elimination of the 2 trim level and the Omega Edition, the subtraction of four paint options, the addition of two new ones, the reintroduction of the Sky Convertible Top (RPO SBD), and a new Dark Essentials Package (PDB). Pricing starts at $98,845 for both the Pickup and SUV, and the SUV configurator and Pickup configurator are both live.
The Hummer EV 2X trim equips a pair of GM drive motors, while the 3X trim is powered by three motors. Despite this difference, both trims of the SUV send power to their motors from the same 20-module battery pack utilizing GM battery technology. The Hummer EV Pickup in the 3X trim offers an optional 24-module battery, pushing its horsepower rating to 1,000.
For the 2025 model year, the GMC Hummer EV continues to use the GM BT1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.
