That 2016 Cadillac CT6 order guide has all kinds of interesting information about the most luxurious Cadillac sedan in years. In fact, seeing some of the CT6’s features and equipment makes us downright giddy on the inside. But the order guide also brought with it something that made us cry is rather disappointing: the fact that the full-size sport-luxury sedan will only have one auto-dimming external mirror.
That’s right, a Cadillac that will (likely) have a starting price in the $60,000s or $70,000s is getting the corner-cutting treatment by being solely equipped with a single auto-dimming rear-view mirror — the one on the driver’s side. This means that the passenger-side mirror will not auto-dim. Yes, this is the Cadillac CT6 we’re talking about — a vehicle that will be, more or less, a short-wheelbase variant of the upcoming Cadillac CT8 flagship expected in the future.
With other makes of higher brand cache not cutting these corners, it’s natural to feel frustrated.
Granted, the CT6’s exterior mirrors will be power-adjustable and power-folding, which are nice extras. But what good is any of that when the passenger-side mirror can’t dim itself when some inconsiderate (reckless?) driver is riding your tail with the brights on.
We should note that both — the Cadillac ATS and CTS also auto-dim only the driver’s-side mirror, no matter the trim level or associated price. And you should know that BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi vehicles in the classes that we’re talking about all have auto-dimming exterior mirrors as standard equipment on all of their vehicles. Simply put, it’s one of the most standard and basic features of luxury cars.

I had auto dimming mirrors on my 2002 Chevy Trailblazer. Driver, Rearview and Passenger mirrors dimmed. This is poor excuse for cost cutting. This vehicle is already showing cheap bits from lesser models. At this price point that is unacceptable. Learn from BMW. From the 4 series down the handles and buttons are cheaper but durable. From the 5 series or higher everything you touch has a more luxury feel to it. Chasing the Germans but still short of Lexus and Infiniti was not the goal and people noticed.
Something so small like this can be a big deal to some customers . Are the bean-counters to blame here or something GM just doesn't think is a big deal . If you want to start playing in the tier -1 game you should atleast give the consumer the same goods . A head scratcher indeed !
I drive a 2014 Cadillac ATS Premium. I have never noticed any problem from the apparent non dimming passenger side mirror.
It has the 3.6 and AWD. I love the performance
Oh stop. Just stop. You're making fan boy excuses and it is pathetic. What you should be doing is recognizing the oversight/cost cutting and pushing your favorite car brand to be better.

I have been driving for fifty years and never needed auto-dimming mirrors. It is a gimmick that adds no real value to any car!
