We’ve been hearing about a future 200-mile electric car from Chevrolet for a few years now. Possibly a Chevrolet Sonic EV of sorts. Such a vehicle is also expected to ask for around $30,000 or so, and could be a breakthrough product offering for a segment that has been criticized for its pricing. $30K for a 200-mile all-electric car? Can’t say there’s a vehicle like that on the market right now. At least, not yet. Though we may see such a vehicle from Chevrolet rotating alongside the 2016 Chevrolet Volt at the 2015 North American International Auto Show, according to The Wall Street Journal.
It’s name: the Chevrolet Bolt. With a ‘B’. That’s not confusing at all.
Along with the description of 200 miles and a $30k price range tipped by current and former GM executives alike, the “Bolt” name was trademarked back in August of 2014 — which we first reported. If WSJ is to be believed (we hear they have a decent track record), more than anything, we want to see how Chevrolet plans on having the public tell the Volt and Bolt apart during auto show public days, let alone half-awake auto journalists.

I find this shocking!
Sorry I had to.
It will be interesting to see what they bring to the table. If it does what I have heard it will be a land mark car in the industry. So far the crazy Tesla fan boys are going negative on it and have not even seen it. I smell fear.
I do hope it is the size of the Volt as I expect.
It will be interesting if this pans out.
Fear would effectively describe GM after forcing Tesla out of Michigan. Afraid of competition GM? Volt sales plummeting?
I am betting on -34 for this post, since you all would rather downvote than look at the facts.
Supposedly, it will be a CUV; probably based off of the Equinox, hopefully it doesn't look like the Orlando.
That would be very interesting, and very good for GM. I wonder if this would be the "surprise unveiling" that everyone is waiting for. I personally was hoping it would have been the 2016 Camaro.
Saying it now, Ford is going to take the show. New Ford GT, New GT350.R, New Raptor. Enjoy your Bolt.
-25 on this, betting it now. Make it happen.
Dan the car I am sure will be shown at a large Media showing as GM normally does do it will get good exposure.
The Camaro I had though might be here but it is now looking like NYC. The Camaro has for the last few years been using NYC as their release show.
I just love baiting these fundamentalist Musk fans. Note the keying on the mental.
I have not seen so much blind passion as I have from some of these Tesla fans since Jonestown.
It truly makes me feel for the normal Tesla fans out there. These folks are like their Crazy Uncle that shows up at Christmas. They do more damage than good for their brand and cause.
When trying to get people interested in EV cars the last thing you need is a Zealot that comes in and scares off the normal people that needs to learn and understand the cars. The first thing these folks think is are all the people around EV cars like this. The truth is no but it keeps more away than it attracts.
Yeah, thank God there aren't any GM fans like that. Especially not around here.
Anon, Stop with your nonsense. You are going to start baiting these fundamentalist GM fans. Note the keying on the mental.

When trying to get people interested in EV cars the last thing you need is a Zealot company that comes in and scares off other potential EV brands and discourages competition . The first thing these companies think is that all the people want a GM branded EV car and nothing else. The truth is it keeps more buyers away than it attracts. Which is evident by sales.
But again, there are NO GM fans like that...At all...
Could not agree more Uncle Anon.
LOL!
Hmm...I dunno. New York would be in April, that would be cutting it kinda close to any pre-ordering timeframe, wouldn't it?
While I am very hopeful it will be in 2 days (Come on GM, just show me the damn car already! I know how to and totally WILL keep it secret!!), I am starting to think more and more that it will be sometime in Feb. First, we got the Super Bowl coming up, and there's also the Chicago Auto Show. 2 great opportunities right there.
Well here is the problem.
They will not show it in public at the Super bowl for an intro as that will be at a show.
Chicago is not a top show anymore as it sits behind Detroit LA and Now NYC.
April is plenty early since nothing for 2016 would be release for ordering till May anyways. And who said it will be out in the fall. It could be a mid year release too.
I am still banking on NYC just because Chevy has put a lot on this show anymore for their cars and it has been the launch point for a lot of Camaro things in the last two years. The NYC show just has become a Camaro show for some reason?
Hmm, some valid points indeed, sir.
Damn! Just show me the damn car already, GM!!
I've been completely obsessed with the Camaro since the concept was revealed back in 2006! That concept turned me into a "car guy" in every sense of the word. It's 9 years later, and I am STILL obsessed with it! I'm currently working 3 jobs because I just want one so damn bad.
Yeah...I'm not kidding.
I almost got one back in November, but it was a used 2011 SS, and they wanted $30,000 for it. Didn't seem worth it. Then there was the 20% fire sale just recently, but now I feel I'm too close to the release of the 6th Gen. I want to at least see it!
The drawings are pretty close to what you will see. The car will shrink over all in all directions. But the interior and wheel base will be very similar.
The car will lose some of the things carried over from the show car that hindered the present car like the interior and some of the site lines will be improved. I know the Camaro staff really wanted to change the interior but were forced to hold onto the show interior for better or worse.
The key elements we have not seen are some of the details like the grill and headlamps and the tail lamps as these are normally last to go on late in the deal. There are enough Mule photos to give you a good feel for the size and shape. Options I expect will remain similar only the new LT DI engine this time will be in it and the new transmission.
The real key will be less weight. I expect the V8 to go 3600-3800 and the V6 to under cut that and the Turbo 4 to be around 3490-3500.
The major improvements will be in refinement with the investment Cadillac did in the engineering of the Alpha. The refinement should surpass the much improved Mustang.
Don't feel bad getting shut out on info as many of the Camaro advisers have not been shown or told anything to this point either which is a big change.
