Jalopnik Names 2015 Chevrolet Colorado As “Best Mid-Sized Pickup”

The 2015 Chevy Colorado is continuing to rack up awards, with the latest coming from Gawker-owned website Jalopnik. Labeled as America’s “Best Mid-Sized Pickup,” the 2015 Colorado earned the title after the Jalopnik staff across the country test-drove every midsizer on the market.

“There’s really no contesting the top spot for 2015; the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon … simply blow the decrepit doors off their Japanese rivals in just about every aspect of the driving experience,” Jalopnik writer Andrew P. Collins said.

Collins found just about everything to love about the new Colorado including the “modern gauge cluster and a beautifully integrated infotainment display.” He also found the driving experience to be smooth and the V6 engine to be plenty strong enough for modest loads.

While Collins sees the limitations of a mid-size truck when it comes to towing and power, they still possess a lot of desired traits.

“Better to think of Colorado and Canyon as “gateway drugs” for people who want a truck, maybe irrationally, but are rational enough to appreciate a up-to-date amenities great ride quality, in a package that will fit into parking garages or your urban driveway,” Collins said.

Next week we’ll see if the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado can take home the high-profile North American Truck of the Year award.

  1. Is Jalopnik even worthy enough to mention?

    1. They sort of resurrected the trend of integrity and actual opinion when it came to reviewing vehicles, that is unless you like reading nothing but rephrased manufacturer product release statements, spec sheet, and a little smoke blown up the manufacturer’s ass, summarizing the review with one or two bullet point cons.
Auto journalists seemed to have gotten scared of offending manufacturers and having the door close on them for getting test cars to review.
Jalopnik piss off manufacturers all the time, the biggest being Ferrari – outcome was Ferrari basically denouncing Jalop existence; and when they leaked the C7 almost a year before it made it’s debut. Other news outlets picked up on the leak, when GM asked them to take it down, Jalop held their ground and instead posted the letter GM sent them. *Middle finger*.
Yet they still have people like Ed Welburn as a guest to write an article, or answer Jalop reader questions. Or have GM factory drivers, other engineers and designers, etc.

They play it as they see it, and don’t sugar coat it. If they like something they say so, if they don’t they tear it apart.

  2. Mid sized is big enough for half of buyers. GM plays in segments Detroit gave up on. It’s a lot of capital, but paying off in the current market. It’s the opposite of One Ford.

    1. I guess that Ford did figure on Ram ECO diesel as being better on fuel mileage. Just because you shed 700 lbs does not mean your fuel mileage is automatically going to go up. As far as I am concerned, the ECOBOOST crap that they are feeding the public is going to bit ford in the ass down the road in high repair costs for the consumer. Ford has never been great at turbo charging in the first place. Companies that have been doing this for years know how to do it right. Ford firsts have never been very good, like the 6.0 diesel, V6 engine in the T-bird, l-4 in Pinto, V-10 not mention the F-150 trans! What a bag of junk that has been!

  5. I just hope GM reads these statements/comments….They must listen, especially engineers. I have ordered a Colorado. I have seen the truck also. It is much bulkier than my former 2006 model. However, for me these are but small things. I am looking at the strength, engineering and factory who made the truck. When we demand more and GM listens, Americans will buy American again! Period.

  6. Cmon Tim, seriously? Have you been sneaking across the Colorado border to write this jibberish in the wee of the smoke-filled night? Is GM sending you gold golf balls? I’ve had GM mid and full-size trucks my whole life and every one- every one had the tranny blow before 100K, the engine burn oil before 100K and last to, at best 150K. And I took care of them like my kids. And shake, rattle and roll right out of the box. How about ho-hum interiors, lousy dash features, and poor reliability. Transmission levers with so much slop in them you cant see what gear you’re in. And that’s just the beginning. Reliability? Please. I bought my first Tacoma in 2006- it has 160k on it and drives like the day I bought it. I love America too Tim. But the Japanese simply do it better. Always have. They have this little concept we lost years ago: quality before profit.

  7. Yesterdays Tacoma event was un-eventful and very disappointing. If Toyota thinks modernizing the tailgate is a world class 10 year redesign breakthrough their in for a surprise.
Outside the US where Toyota is competing with the Colorado and especially the Ranger world vehicle the Tacoma is losing market share. With that reality in mind I was hoping for much much more out of Toyota.

I Told u Guys that the Ford F150 was gonna Win The 2015 North American Truck of the Year award, but instead of seeing the Reason you all just Hated, that’s OK, I’m a GM Guy thru and thru but I knew a bunch of writers would feel Sorry for the Truck and give them the Award, I call it a Pity Award!!! But we know that GM’s Trucks will Only get Even Stronger then b4 and will leave all the other on the Way Side to Burn…….. 😉
