Earlier this week, Cadillac boss Johan de Nysschen revealed some interesting information surrounding the brand during an interview with Automobile Magazine. He spoke about the Omega-based Cadillac CT6, a new halo car for the brand and even about Cadillac sportscars. However de Nysschen also brought up the “obvious gaps,” Cadillac has in its product portfolio, most of which are caused by the need for more crossovers.
Johan said there’s “clearly room for (Cadillac) to do something between SRX and Escalade,” which to us sounds like the three-row crossover that was axed in May. It’s apparent Cadillac will eventually make a three-row model that will be larger than the SRX and smaller than the Escalade, however it’s not clear if it will be a Lambda-based model as was rumored before, or a new model on a different architecture altogether.
In addition to the expected three-row CUV, de Nysschen also voiced an interest in a sub-SRX model. Other luxury brands are offering compact SUVs, such as the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and Audi Q3. And even though Cadillac won’t go product-for-product with the Germans, models such as these may prove to be more popular in coming years as gas prices rise and consumer interest in high-riding crossovers persists.
No matter what the plans are, de Nysschen sounds serious about getting another sport utility vehicle in Cadillac showrooms. Demand for crossovers has grown each year and de Nysschen believes it’s a “sad day,” when the Germans have more crossovers than an American brand like Cadillac does. We’d have to agree with him on that.

With a few alterations, Envision could well (look wise) into the Cadillac portfolio. Sometimes I think Cadillac would do well with Mark Adams design language developed for Opel, and now, by default, Buick. Art and Science has been pronounced dead by so many critics, so a new style will emerge soon.
The Envision concept minus full doors would have made for a perfect Caddy.
Envision is made in China and will not be imported. Making a Buick from a Cadillac is one thing, but a Cadillac from a Buick will never work...Besides, FWD is dead at Cadillac on any future vehicles and will leave SRX and XTS when they do the redesigns in 2016 and 2017...
Yes, but the Envision can be made in whatever country it needs to be made in. When it comes to the U.S., it will be made in North America. And when it comes to Europe as an Opel, it will be made there.
But like you, I hope that the SRX leaves the FWD setup and goes to a proper architecture more deserving of a Cadillac.
I was really disappointed that Cadillac named its current generation crossover SRX. It was a familiar brand, but the second generation was a completely different vehicle. I wish they'd return to an elegant, CTS-based, wagon-like crossover for the third-generation SRX and rename the current SRX something else.
My concern with anything Lambda based is the "bubbly" shape that seems to be inherent in vehicles on that platform. The Enclave and Acadia are great, but they look too much like a minivan for my taste and appear "overweight" from many angles. For those who don't tow anything, I can definitely see the appeal for a large, 7-passenger luxury CUV. It just needs to be sporty and aggressive, not bubbly and bulky looking like the Lambda CUVs.
But same thing could be said about the GL class since it does looks a bit "minivan" by your definition. Also the lambda platform was set to replace the GM minivans.
The problem is the original SRX model tanked in sales. The present model hits pretty much right where the market is and the sales have been significantly higher
I would better anticipate a Alpha based SUV that is more BMW like to fit between the SRX and the Escalade.
GM is not abandoning the SRX formula due to higher sales and profits it has provided.
As for the present model just look at the new Lincoln. Ford recognized the success of the SRX and has nearly copied the roof line and size in their new model.
As for Buick they and Opel will do fine and Cadillac is just icing on the cake as it will carry it's own style and image. There is room for both.
I just do not see Cadillac getting a SUV/CUV on the Lambda. It will be on the Alpha or Omega in the future.
The future for most companies will be CUV and Compact CUV models. The people like them better than a small car as they are more versatile. This year CUV models out sold the sedan for the first time and these numbers will continue to grow. Cadillac will focus on RWD and AWD models and the SRX will remain FWD/AWD for a while longer.
Of all the things Cadillac need the SRX is one of them that does not need fixed right now. It is paying the bills unlike some of the other models.
But another possibility would be that Cadillac can do something sporty to the lambda if they can
Nothing can be done with a Lambda nor at this point in its life will they invest much money into it. The vehicle is just too heavy for moving into the future and a new updated platform would be the best way to address the weight issues as they will with the SRX.
I had my Doubts about this Guy, but Dam am I Warming Up to him Big Time!!!! ;)

Agreed, good enough is the American mantra

Still can't get over the fact that Fleetwood is forever dead to let the news of a new full-size Cadillac taint your impression of a car that is as of yet unreleased?
And you think the name will matter if the car is brilliant?
Six thumbs down (and counting). Is this a place for car people or WHAT?
That's what I thought.
Baa-aaa-aa-aaa bye bye.
Enough with this on again, off again stuff. Either crap or get off the pot Cadillac. I say, Yes there is room for a crossover between the other two.
Cadillac needs two new SUV's, but first, they need to work on their platforms.
Alpha 1 - 108.5 inches
Alpha 2 - 112 inches
Alpha 3 - 115 inches
E2XX - 113.5 inches
Omega 1 - 120 inches
Omega 2 - 125.5 inches
K2XX 1 - 116 inches
K2XX 2 - 130 inches
Their lineup should consist of:
Sub-ATS Sedan Alpha 1
ATS (Sedan, Wagon, Coupe, and Convertible) Alpha 2
CTS (Sedan and Coupe) Alpha 3
LTS (Sedan) Omega 1 and 2
Sub-SRX (SUV) Alpha 2
SRX (CUV) E2XX
Sub-Escalade (SUV) Omega 1
Escalade (SUV) K2XX
Gm needs to keep an eye on this new head of Cadillac . First he touts that the CT6 will go head to head withe the S-class then 2 weeks later says this car won't do it , so look for a CT7 and 8 . Meanwhile the XTS sales are plummiting and even the new ATS and CTS sales are down . Cadillac doesn't need to chase the Germans . Take the money and create a CUV that is under the Escalade and bigger than the current SRX . Sales of that platform for the GMC, Chevy and buick are still very strong for as old as they are getting . Cadillac needs to be in that market as well . Then come out withe a compact like the Encore ( that little CUV ) is keeping the money coming in for Buick . Thats the future . I say , let the CT6 replace the XTS , and if there is a need let the CT7 be their " halo " car , and forget about a CT8 which will cost to much to build and sell . They will never re-coup the cost of designing it .
