The One Millionth Corvette (Or What’s Left Of It) Turned 22 This Week

At 2 pm on July 2, 1992, a Chevrolet Corvette wearing a white exterior and red interior was completed at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant. With media and guests present, VIN # 1G1YY33PXN5119134 was annointed the 1 millionth Corvette. The white LT1 roadster sported a special windshield banner and embroidered seats that read “1,000,000th.”

For the most part, the 22-year-old vehicle has led a pampered life, traveling the country alongside a 1953 Corvette in a special hauler, then finding its way to the National Corvette Museum (NCM). This Corvette has remained untouched as a display piece in the NCM until an enormous sinkhole swallowed the vehicle (and seven other Corvettes) on February 12, 2014.

Three weeks later, construction crews rescued the C4 from the sinkhole to find minimal damage done to the vehicle. As we now know, NCM plans to keep the sinkhole open for tourists to see. Chevrolet is rushing to restore the millionth to its original state and have it join the sinkhole display.
