2014 Camaro Z/28 Runs The ‘Ring In An Astounding 7:37.47

There’s fast, then there’s faster. For instance, the upcoming 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 is faster than the Porsche 911 Carrera S and the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, and anything else even remotely close to its expected price range,  around the mighty Nürburgring, running a physics-defying 7:37.47. Of course, it’s also faster than the 580 hp Camaro ZL1, which ran the ‘Ring in an also very impressive 7:41.27.

Oh, and did we mention the run was done in the rain? If you don’t believe us, the video is just below. Turn the volume all the way up to ensure maximum LS7 enjoyment. Pay close attention to the screen fixed on the front wheel; there are points where it’s airborne.

  • Whoa! I could feel my heart beating faster! What a ride! Kudos! For years, you've had the engine and trans. Now you finally got the car right!

  • Nice!

This bodes well for the 6th gen based on the much lighter Alpha. If they can do this with near 4000 pounds imagine what the new Alpha based car will be capable of.

Mark Stielow and company have done a great job with this older platform and I am just waiting to see what they can do from the start with the next one.

The present is great and the Future will only be better.

  • Driving the Ring on a computer screen is about as close as I'll ever get and is awesome but, this Camaro is one of a kind alright. The "rear" wheel in the lower screen is steering the car! New tech for the Camaro?

  • That is an awesome soundtrack that LS7 makes! Ive just been playing the vid for the sound while i work at my desk! haha. Sounds like the run was made with some form of stability or traction management on though. You can here it cutting power at times, almost if its pulling timing, cutting fuel or both. Sounds cool like the ZL1 when it does it too.

  • wow, the king of the hill, yes, i think the small wheel screen is the R front wheel, what a wild ride, why do i want one now even worse than before, if i wait a few years and maybe get a used one, the sound is terrific , please make a sh@T LOAD THEM!!!!!

  • Faster than a zl1 even in the rain? Amazing! I wonder what the lap time would have been if it was dry...

  • Does the radio say the temp is 55F? Raining and a bit chilly, too!

I am curious as to what mode the driver selected to do this. Obviously, I don't expect it to be the comfort mode, but I am curious.

    Nice video. Thanks for sharing!

  • Remember those people who said it was stupid that this model was going to cost more than the ZL1 because it *only* had 505hp???

  • Sorry the Z is still at 3800 pounds per GM numbers as they only lost 300 pounds. But even that much helps as less weight adds more performance parameters than more power ever could. Handling and braking are always much more improved with less mass than more HP but you still get the gain in acceleration too.
