Spied: The Impending Opel/Vauxhall Astra GTC OPC/VXR

We knew this was coming. But there weren’t any spy photographs of the upcoming high-performance version of the Opel/Vauxhall Astra GTC to solidify the rumors, until now thanks to Auto Express.

The publication speculates that the Astra GTC OPC/VXR too-many-letters will launch with over 300 brake-horsepower from a boosted 2.0L Ecotec to the front wheels, relying on the car’s HiPer Strut suspension system and a limited slip differential to stabilize the vehicle. However, we’re going to assume that number is closer to 270, or what we’re currently seeing out of the turbocharged 2.0L Ecotec in the Buick Regal GS. For more photos, visit Auto Express.

  • Yes, I think that a small sporty Buick would really make sense. Buick is looking to appeal to a younger market, aren't they? The car looks great and , I know that plenty of the older set love sporty car, too! GM would be smart to add it to the Buick lineup. It is a car that I would love to own .... and I will be 81 years young in two months!

    • I wonder, though, how young is too young for a brand that's trying to reach some kind of exclusivity by attempting to have "luxury" status. I mean there's a reason that the least expensive Mercedes, BMW, and Audi are about $30,000. If the Buick Astra (or whatever it ends up being called) is anywhere below $20,000, it may cease being a "luxury" vehicle. And then, it's just a Cruze with different sheet metal. That said, looks like we will see the Astra GTC in the States wearing a Buick badge after all:

PS: you're just a cool guy, Raymond, for wanting to buy one of these things. Not everyone's like you :)
