General Motors is cooking up a new go-faster variant of the C8 Corvette – the 2025 Chevy Corvette ZR1. With a new forced induction engine and new aero on the list of goodies, the upcoming C8 ZR1 is shaping up to be quite the performer. Critically, the 2025 Chevy Corvette ZR1 will be available in both a Coupe and Convertible body style, and now, we’re getting our first look at the C8 Corvette ZR1 Convertible thanks to the following spy photos.
Per usual, this prototype model is covered in a black-and-white camo wrap specifically designed to obscure its detailed contours. However, among the discernible features are B-pillars that are distinctly shaped for a convertible configuration. The prototype also sports enhanced aerodynamics, including an air extractor prominently integrated into the front hood and additional air intakes on the sides, as spotted on C8 Corvette ZR1 prototypes previously.
Notably, the rear end of this prototype includes a relatively understated spoiler, which is likely required for integration with the convertible’s architecture, as compared to the massive wing seen on ZR1 Coupe prototypes previously. The rear end also shows a quartet of exhaust pipes situated at the vehicle’s center, just like the C8 Corvette Z06.
GM Authority first reported in 2020 that the new C8 ZR1 would be available in both a coupe and convertible body style. Just behind the cabin, the new ZR1 is expected to feature a forced induction variant of the naturally aspirated 5.5L V8 LT6 equipped by the C8 Z06. Called the LT7, the new boosted V8 will be a significant power upgrade from the 670 horsepower produced by the Z06. Predictions place the ZR1’s output at approximately 850 horsepower.
Although Chevrolet has maintained a degree of secrecy about the new C8 ZR1, recent spy photos suggest major advancements in cooling and aerodynamics, as seen at Nurburgring tests previously. This model’s presence on the racetrack with features like a large rear spoiler and additional air ducts hints at its high-performance orientation tailored for on-track dominance.
Look for the 2025 Corvette ZR1 to debut this summer.

That has to be the worst vinyl wrap job by a detailer ever.
Ever think they’re baiting the media for free publicity to stir up the potential buyers?
If it’s anything like the Z06 you won’t see many and dealers tacking on about $100,000 markup. For the money, a McLaren may be a better choice.
I don’t think it’s a matter of “how many” ZR-1’s GM will make, obviously this car will follow the usual pattern of first being given to various road test magazines and “YouTuber’s” for their assessments, which I’m betting is going to be another “Home Run” for Chevy and the C8 generation. The very “well to do” will somehow end up with these special C8’s first bypassing probably any regular Chevy dealer showroom availability but will be sent to certain Chevy dealers who have a track record of selling the most C8’s since 2020 in various models and with the most options, so think “West Coast, East Coast plus throw in some mid western states (uh, Texas?) then, if there are any ZR-1’s actually available anywhere else, then of course the price will be raised accordingly with the richest applicants getting first choice…and all others…”fo-get ’bout it”, you’ll have to settle for any left over Z06’s or if you are an “average guy” maybe some Z-51’s on a used car lot.
As far as choosing a foreign make, like Ferrari, McLaren, Lamborghini ect. I think after seeing the “final product” Chevy will be putting out there (at any cost!) the new ZR-1 will be an addition to in the garages of “The Rich and Famous” and not just a replacement toy for them to be seen in. I believe the ZR-1 will finally have reached Super Car status, no exceptions, this car will be the one to beat, and the one to be seen in through out the world. Hard to top that status, I think Chevy will have produced a “Home Run” sports car that everyone has been asking for since “Day One”, way back in 1953! Go Chevy!
