Cadillac Sollei Convertible Concept: Live Photo Gallery

Cadillac gave the Cadillac Sollei its big reveal in July, showing off a new ultra-lux drop-top concept that mixes modern GM technology with classic Caddy cues, creating something totally unique in the process. We’ve covered the Cadillac Sollei concept extensively since its reveal, including reimagining it as a hard top coupe and explaining why it uses a soft top rather than a foldable hard top. Now, we’re taking another look via the following GM Authority Live Photo Gallery.

The images were captured at Cadillac House at Vanderbilt, the facility at the GM Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan where every unit of the Cadillac Celestiq is assembled by hand. The car is finished in a paint shade called Manila, which was originally offered as a factory Cadillac color in the late ‘50s.

Broadly speaking, the Cadillac Sollei is essentially a two-door convertible variant of the four-door, fixed-roof Cadillac Celestiq, incorporating similar styling cues front to back. That includes a familiar front fascia design with Caddy’s characteristic blocked-off  grille and illuminated inner detailing, as well as a monochrome Cadillac badge placed high on the nose. Side wings with a silver finish are placed in the corners of the fascia alongside vertically oriented lighting signatures, while black trim is seen lower in the fascia.

Viewed from the side, we see a set of large polished wheels, which incorporate a multi-spoke design with a fan-like layout. The two-door profile leads to a handsomely sculpted rear end in a single, arcing line that emphasizes the drop-top’s elegant, ground-hugging stance.

Moving into the rear end, we see a wide horizontal brake light line across the trunk, with vertical lighting elements in the corners of the fascia. There’s also a black finish for the lower valence.

In the cabin, we spot a 2+2 seating arrangement, while the infotainment spec is highlighted by a 55-inch pillar-to-pillar digital screen. Interior materials include a bio-based upholstery called Fine Mycelium, which is renewable and sourced from mushroom root structure.

No doubt, the Cadillac Sollei is a sleek-looking concept deserving of attention. The question, then, becomes this – will GM actually bring it market? Hit play on the video above to find out.

  • Although I do like the CT4 and had a 2020, it's just not quite Cadillac. More a nice Chevy. Same with the CT5 too, but it does look a little more Caddy. The rest of the lineup is garbage to me.

This is the first time in a very long while that Cadillac is putting something out front and center that seems like it could make it to production and that stirs my soul. This is more in line with what I think when I hear the word Cadillac. I hope they build it. I won't be able to afford one, but it still puts me back to a place where I can dream. Much unlike the Escalade which makes me want to vomit.

    • In my opinion nothing Cadillac builds today looks like or feels like it should wear a Cadillac badge. I understand that BMW has had great success building sports sedans and GM decided long ago that’s where the market had gone so they’ve tried for many years now to mimic what comes out of Munich. I would argue that it’s been and continues to be the wrong approach and the proof of that is that sales have been on a 40 year slide since this philosophy was implemented.

GM really needs Pontiac back to be their pseudo BMW brand with products like the CT5 better served as near-luxury Pontiacs than as a Caddy. That would then free Cadillac to again be true to its heritage and return to the kinds of products that made the name synonymous with luxury and the finest motor cars around. Cadillac’s were always more like BMW AG’s other brand, Rolls Royce, than the namesake brand. They weren’t small premium quality canyon carvers but rather big, ostentatious cars that prioritized smoothness and silence. BMW AG is quite successful offering both recipes and I GM might be too.

This Sollei is much closer to a Wraith or Spectre than any BMW-branded product. I’d like to see it for sale with an ICE or hybrid variant and perhaps as an EV too (Mercedes and BMW are doing both so GM could too) and priced much more in line with historical Cadillac pricing. Under those circumstances, it would likely succeed. And, yes, for sure keep the Manila paint.

      • Rocket: Agreed. Well said. And yet I think you and I may be a tiny minority on GM Auth. Most on here think Cadillac is only good because of the fat pig Escalade and the very high performance sedans (V's). I don't agree with them. I will say one thing about the stupid Escalade, and that it's the closest any buyers can get to the old school Caddy's of yore. They are big, rear drive based and make a statement. Just not a statement that I feel is truly Cadillac.

Since Buick has become the most boring brand on earth with nothing but pathetic SUV/CUV's (all 4 of them), I think GM should just kill Buick off (or give them some darn sedans and EV's). Then replace Buick with Pontiac and go with the idea you have, making Pontiac the true BMW contender. Then they need to take Cadillac back from the SUV and performance queens and turn it back into a true luxury brand of the AMERICAN style.

  • I love this car. Especially in this color combination. It reminds me of a Bentley Azure I once saw on DuPont Registry that I fell in love with. It was white exterior, an autumn and magnolia two tone interior and a light colored birdseye maple wood trim. It also had lambwool rugs. It was such a warm and inviting interior that felt like being in a cozy living room. And this car has a nice modern take on that interior.

  • Put this on the ct5?! A limited edition, final edition ICE engine vehicle. Would so put this in storage 6 mos a year. Had wanted to get a Blackwing for this, but the drop top would trump no questions asked! I'm old enough, sorry Cadillac, but I'm never buying an electric!

  • The heck with the concepts and start selling them. Bring back the style to the Cadillac sedan and I will start to buy caddy’s again.
