Concurrent with the compact crossover’s global debut in Detroit, General Motors announced the all-new 2025 GMC Terrain in Mexico – where GMC‘s entry-level utility vehicle will continue to be exclusively built.
The automaker will begin building the all-new 2025 GMC Terrain later this year at the GM San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico, the only GM facility worldwide to have produced GMC’s compact crossover since 2017. As such, the Mexican complex will continue to be the only exclusive manufacturing location of the third-generation Terrain, supplying North America and select international markets such as the Middle East.
Cluster Industrial confirmed that the third-generation all-new 2025 GMC Terrain will be manufactured at the San Luis Potosí plant in central Mexico, which will now also be the only facility building the all-new North American Chevy Equinox. In fact, the Mexican media outlet revealed specific data on production volume of the current GMC Terrain at the facility and the proportion destined for the local market, confirming its primarily export-oriented focus.
In particular, from production start of the second-generation GMC Terrain at the San Luis Potosí plant in April 2017 to the end of June 2024, a total of 702,371 units of the crossover were manufactured. According to the publication, only a little more than 13,000 units were sold in the local market in Mexico, which is less than 2 percent of overall production. The rest of the Terrain units were exported mainly to the United States and Canada.
This overwhelmingly export-friendly ratio at the Mexican complex is expected to continue with the start of production of the new GMC Terrain, which introduces a new design language, upgraded technology and more standard equipment than ever before. In fact, the 2025 Terrain seeks to elevate its market positioning as a premium compact crossover with a more comprehensive set of features for the new base trim level.
As GM Authority exclusively reported earlier this year, production of the all-new 2025 GMC Terrain at the company’s San Luis Potosí facility has been rescheduled to begin on October 14th, 2024. GMC said production will kick off with the 2025 Terrain Elevation and the first units are destined for the U.S. market, while the range-topping AT4 and Denali variants will be added to the lineup at a later date.

So why does the Order Guide have Elevations available at the start in BOTH FWD and AWD trims? I thought it was AWD only until model year '26.
Put the 2.0 Turbo as an option & it willbe on my to buy list!!!
This is why I switched from my 2018 Terrain Denali to the Buick Envision Avenir. I got the 2.0 plus a ton of equipment for a marginal price increase.
Envisions are discounted a LOT more than Terrains.
If you haven't tried the 1.5l, my recommendation would be to test one. If you hate it, then you avoided a bad purchase. I thought I would hate it, but I was pleasantly surprised when I rented one.
Typical cooperate greed. Build them less expensive in Mexico and sell at a premium price in USA. At the cost of American jobs.
Any if it was built here it would be even more expensive, then you would complain more and buy less...
You must be one of Mary's bean counters.
The truth is the truth costs get passed to the consumer.
The CEO of GM Makes upward of 30-40 million it’s all about corporate greed
It really shouldn't be this expensive in the US or Mexico. There are ways to cut costs.
The problem is they are all expensive. Cost have gone off the rails the last 5 years.
Even with ingested prices we will see more mfgs die and merge.
Not an easy business anymore.
I was just talking to someone about this. It's ridiculous how high prices have become. I think I personally would be ok with a car with the same (or better) reliability but would sacrifice the fit and finish if it could result in a lower price.
Not true, but it is counter intuitive, as majority of Silverados are built in Indiana and Ontario, which we ship down over the border, but Silverado high country trims are built in Mexico with ese and shipped here. You would think it would be the other way around.
I would be willing to spend an extra $500 or do to buy a US built vehicle. My neighbor building a vehicle leads to benefits for the community I live in.
Exactly none of the people there can afford it even the people that work there that's sad living wage that's why we unionize
They started building the Terrain's in Mexico with the 2018's, which was during Trump's time in office...
And why does Mary Barra allow all this out-of-the-country manufacturing and importing?... $$$$$ for themselves?
This is not new. Look at the Buick and Chevy lineup now... mostly imports.
I read a previous comment that said 'maybe GM should just become a foreign car manufacture and get it over with.' True?...
Looking to/hoping for the upstarts to save us.
Frank - Prior to going to be built in Mexico the Equinox and Terrain were both built in .ingersoll Ontario Canada at a top cost effective and quality union facility converted to EV Vans by Detroit management !-👍✅ 🇨🇦
Why only built “exclusively in Mexico”?
Why can’t it be exclusively built in Mexico for the rest of the world while those GMC trucks and SUV’s destined for North America (Canada and the USA) be built “exclusively in The USA”!
Bragging about building a product in a foreign country for sale in the USA seems to be rather counter productive don’t you think? Just say’n.
Canada, US and Mexico are part of NAFTA, why is it ok to be built in Canada but not Mexico? At least not having the ridiculously expensive union to drive up costs they can keep it more reasonable in price and sell more. If the US union built them it would be even more expensive. Mexico, US and Canada are all on the same page, not sure why all the hate for having it built in Mexico, quality is the same and it isn't like it is built over seas...
The built in Mexico quality is not the same as built in the USA, and Canada.
It's better. Proof is sitting in my garage.
Yes, it is, and in some cases it's better.
Sorry they are built to the same standard as any plant any place. The Mexican plants are some of the most modern.
Unless you think Mexicans can’t assemble cars better than lazy UAW workers.
Yes, UAW workers are real lazy. That's why there's thousands of finished vehicles outside US plants waiting to be shipped 🙄
Go talk politics somewhere else, we want to talk about cars.
I think people have a real problem with workers not being able to afford the product they build. Henry Ford thought it good workers are able to build the product they make and hence the birth of the great middle class.
FYI, Mexico is also part of North America. Not just Canada and the US.
Also, Canada is a foreign country. Building there and bringing down here would still be a foreign built car being imported.
I'm all for building cars here at home. But why the bias and acceptance of Canada but not our southern neighbors?
Keep the politics OUT! Also, Mexico isn't overseas.....
I've had 2 made in Mexico GMC Terrains (2018 & 2022) and the build quality was better than my made in USA 2021 Cadillac XT4 and my 2022 Cadillac XT6. The XT4 had numerous disappointing quality lapses, and the XT6 was such a POS, I unloaded it after just 6 months. (I probably won't buy another Cadillac). My made in South Korea 2017 Buick Encore had outstanding build quality. However, hands down best build quality goes to my made in China 2019 Buick Envision. I really regret trading that car in on that horrible XT6. All you China haters can give me a thumbs down. I don't care where the car is made, I just want a good product for my money!
Anyway, I'm still driving the 2022 Terrain. Longest I've owned a car in many years. Yes, it's a 1.5T... and I think it's a great motor. Zero complaints. No, it's not a rocket. But, it scoots around town very well, enters the freeway briskly, and has plenty of power to cruise and pass with ease at highway speeds. Anyone, who thinks the 1.5T is a slug hasn't driven the car. And BTW, the Terrain's cabin is quieter than the Cadillac XT4.
A volume gm vehicle made in Mexico what's new🙄. Pretty soon we can call MS Barra "Mexico Mary"
Put a Cadillac front clip and call it the XT6 as a mini IQL.
