Per GM Authority coverage from just a few days ago, General Motors has officially launched the all-electric Cadillac Lyriq in South Korea. With that in mind, LG Group is set to become the first buyer of the South Korean-spec Lyriq in a move that underscores the relationship between the two companies.
According to a report from The Korea Bizwire, LG Chemical and LG Energy Solution participated in a “First Lyriq Purchase Agreement Ceremony” with GM Korea last month. Notably, this purchase follows a series of collaborative efforts between the two entities, including battery business cooperation and supply contracts.
Of course, LG Energy Solution and General Motors are partners in Ultium Cells LLC, which produces the cells used in the Cadillac Lyriq’s batteries – as well other GM electric vehicles. More recently, the GM Ultium Cells Spring Hill plant in Tennessee produced its first batch of Ultium battery cells, marking a significant milestone in the facility’s history. For reference, construction on the Ultium Spring Hill plant kick off just a few years ago in late 2021.
As a reminder, Cadillac Lyriq units destined for the South Korean market are offered in a single configuration comparable to that of the U.S.-spec Sport trim. The AWD-only drivetrain features a dual Ultium Drive motor setup, and produces 500 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. Range estimates sit at 465 kilometers (or 289 miles) on a single charge.
In the cabin, the all-electric crossover features a wide range of safety and technology goodies, including the 33-inch 9K curved display and Cadillac Smart System suite of driver assistance features, along with a 19-speaker AKG Studio premium audio system.
Under the body panels, the Lyriq rides on the GM BEV3 platform, while production for the South Korean market takes places at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee. Pricing is currently set at 106,960,000 won, or about $77,500 USD at the current exchange rate.

I'm a little bit confused because the The Korea Bizwire makes it sound like LG purchased only one Lyriq. While every EV purchase counts and I'm sure GM is pleased, it's a bit of a stretch for Bizwire to call the sale of one vehicle a signal of a strong partnership.
