GM Rival Stellantis Ends Corporate Presence At North American Auto Shows

GM rival automaker Stellantis has announced an end to its corporate presence at North American auto shows. Despite the announcement, the Camp Jeep off-road test track will return to the upcoming Canadian International AutoShow.

Per a report from Automotive News Canada, Stellantis says the decision to end its corporate presence at North American auto shows was prompted by the “challenging automotive market in North America”, as well as a desire to “optimize its marketing strategy as it relates to auto shows.”

Moving forward, Stellantis will let dealers decide whether or not to participate in a given event, with the company stating that its Toronto-area dealers have already agreed to fund the display and activation costs for participation in the Toronto auto show. The Camp Jeep off-road test track will once again an appearance, a feature that previously attracted 26,000 people during last year’s event.

According to Canadian International AutoShow General Manager Jason Campbell, at least seven brands missing during 2023 will return to this year’s event, including Ford, Lincoln, Volvo, Polestar, Porsche, Infiniti, and Genesis. Campbell states that the return of additional car brands is indicative of the show’s return to “pre-pandemic” size after the event was canceled in 2021 and 2022. Campbell added that an additional six auto brands are set to join the event, with an announcement expected closer to the launch of major ticket sales at the end of the month.

Campbell added that attendance numbers are expected to match last year’s numbers, which recorded 350,214 attendees, the third-highest number in the show’s half-century-long history.

Meanwhile, GM will attend the 2024 Canadian International AutoShow with all four of its North American brands, including Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC.

The 2024 Canadian International AutoShow will take place between February 16th and February 25th, with a dedicated Media Day planned for Thursday, February 15th. The event will take place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

  • I for one love the auto show. I had my heart set on a Cadillac CT4. Until I sat in one. Too small, too cramped, and I just didn't like it. Next one over was the CT5. I fell in love with it and 2 years later bought one.

For Stelantis to follow in Mitsubishi footsteps and not have a presentation at an auto show? Look at where Mitsubishi is now....

    • We need the CT6 back. and yes ct4 is tiny, ct5 is small too.

at the same time, you have to give credit to gm for not bloating the ct4. it looks bigger than it is without it actually being big like offerings from others.

    • it's just not Mitsubishi - luxury brands are now skipping out on the auto show circuit. I don't recall Mercedes, Audi and Lincoln being at last year's Chicago show. If I remember correctly, even Cadillac didn't have a display, they had a test track for the Lyriq but no actual display.

      • The Philly Auto show has been shrinking as well since the pandemic. It's half the size it was pre-pandemic, and even brands like Hyundai are skipping. It feels like it will take less than hour to see everything, haha...

  • Stellantis is a mess these days and offer not one vehicle that interests me. So, I could care less. Just hope they aren't setting an example.

  • Just announced Stellantis has pulled out of the 2024 Chicago auto show. I haven't missed a Chicago auto show in over 30 years, I probably will not go this year. Sad - it feels like an end of an era.

  • Many manufacturers were missing from the LA Show. Some that were present at the Orange County Show. And it was all the worst for it. Stellantis was just one. No Porsche or Audi. But the VW ID.Buzz was a hit. No MBZ, GMC, Lincoln, Volvo, Infiniti and the exotics. The ones that showed went all out. Ford took over the former Jeep thrill ride for the Broncos. There was a time I could spend a whole day exploring and talking to reps and other people just looking at cars. Not this time.

  • The Auto Show as we remember it is dead. I went to the Seattle Auto Show to see the 2024 Corvette in Cacti Green and was amazed at how many manufacturers were missing. Other than the Corvette it was a total waste of my time and money.
