The battle between EV and ICE continues to rage, with big power numbers from both camps making for some pretty interesting performance comparisons. Now, we’re watching what happens when GM’s all-electric off-roader, the GMC Hummer EV, goes head-to-head with Ford’s supercharged Raptor R.
Once again coming to us from the folks at Hoonigan, it’s a “This vs. That” drag racing battle that includes a walkaround and specs on both vehicles, as well as several rounds of heads-up racing.
In the first lane, we have the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1. This thing is the baddest of the bad when it comes to the Hummer EV lineup, throwing down with a three-motor, electric four-wheel-drive powertrain doling out a claimed 1,000 horsepower. Juiced by a 24-module, 212 kWh GM Ultium battery pack, this monster can rip off a three-second 0-to-60-mph time with Watts to Freedom mode activated, which is pretty impressive considering the rig weighs over 9,000 pounds.
Indeed, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1 is a beast, but the competition is certainly no slouch, either. Representing internal combustion in this battle is the 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R, which is running a supercharged 5.2L V8 producing 700 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque. Output is routed through a 10-speed automatic transmission and reaches the ground through a four-wheel drivetrain (although the owner says they leave it in 2WD “all the time”). While down on power compared to the Hummer, the Raptor R is also significantly lighter, tipping the scales at roughly 6,050 pounds. Though the Raptor R certainly isn’t some feathery sports car, the 3,000-pound weight difference will surely help it overcome some of its power deficit compared to the insane Hummer EV.
Of course, numbers are one thing, but the way in which those numbers translate in the real world is something else entirely. Which off-roader is gonna win on pavement? Hit play to find out for yourself:

I would still take a Raptor R for lots of reasons, but what is up with that launch? Too much traction or what? Seems like it's about to blow out the rear end!
If she knew how to use the WTF mode it wouldn't have been close.
Don't care about EVs in anything other than a golf cart.
future is most definitely EV. Raptor truly is a dinosaur that gets 11 mpg and can’t beat a vehicle that weighs over a ton more.
The Raptor is modified with silly tires that ruin it, for one thing.
After the raptor gets a full tank yo 100 percent in minutes. Hummer takes what like a hour on a trip if you can find a charger
Ok now race a 1000 mile Baja race like the raptor is designed for.
Very few raptor buyers have ever raced Baja. Most just drive from gas station to gas station in suburbia.
Yes and Hummer EV drivers go from Starbucks to Starbucks ordering soy lattes.
Perhaps however they will get there quicker, more efficiently also Handel and ride better then any Raptor owners getting their lattes.
I say this from experience in these vehicles. Raptor is behind both Ram TRX and Hummer EV. If you doubt this drive all three. Raptor is not in the game although it does get better mpg then Ram, however Ram beats it in every other way. And Hummer EV beats both Ram and Raptor in every way. Only a blue blood oval would not admit it.
The only thing that Raptor does more then Hummer is make noise.
That noise is manly. It does not sound like a personal appliance found in a lonely housewife's underwear drawer.
ocnblu, it’s obvious you have never driven a new Hummer. The EV, rides better, handles better, tows more, hauls more, is more versatile, is quicker and more economical.
I like you was against ev’s at first until I drove one!
