As GM Authority has been closely following, several General Motors vehicles were having an issue where the battery was being drained following an over-the-air (OTA) software update. The 2024 Chevy Blazer EV is now part of that group, and The General has released a Customer Satisfaction Program for the 2024 Blazer EV designed to address this inconvenience.
Tagged with bulletin number N232428190, this fix is designed for Blazer EV units that are found to be draining their 12-volt batteries. To this end, certified GM technicians are to reprogram several modules, including the Battery Energy Control Module, Brake System Control Module, and Serial Data Gateway Module.
It’s worth noting that it should take certified GM techs just over an hour to compete this Customer Satisfaction Program.
Of course, the Chevy Blazer EV isn’t the only vehicle to be affected by this issue. Notably, the Chevy Tahoe, Chevy Suburban, and GMC Yukon also received a Customer Satisfaction Program to fix this inconvenience back in July 2022, while the 2023 Chevy Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon received one in July 2023. In addition, the Cadillac Lyriq was also the subject of a battery drain fix in August 2023.
In the case of the Lyriq, GM Authority reached out to General Motors for an explanation, who responded with the following:
“Our engineering team is working to learn more about and diagnose the issue to minimize any further potential impact to Lyriq customers. As part of regular vehicle care, Cadillac recommends Lyriq customers keep their vehicles charged to a minimum of 20 percent High Voltage state-of-charge (SOC) and plug their vehicles in to their home charging unit overnight to help maintain 12V battery health.”
As a reminder, the Blazer EV rides on the GM BEV3 platform – which also underpins the Cadillac Lyriq – and is motivated by GM Ultium Drive motor and GM Ultium battery technologies.
Production of the 2024 model year officially kicked off in June 2023 at the GM Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico.

I've never figured out how this happens. Why is there even a 12V battery? I think it started with tesla being too stupid to have put a 12V inverter hanging off the big battery way back when. So then everyone followed. From hybrids like the prius (friend had one with a dead 12V battery even though the main battery fully charged) to another friend with a kia niro who has had 2 dead batteries to tesla's to every other hybrid/EV with a big honkin battery that should just be supplying power via a 12V buck converter. Just go on digikey or mouser for a selection. I'd even question why the ev's have 12V at all. They should be running 48V for ancillary functions. Thinner wire to power windows, sunroofs etc. Come on gm, innovate!
I have a 2012 Escalade Hybrid. I plug my 12 volt into a trickle charger every nite when I get home. If you have ever sat in a Hybrid or EV for a couple of hours with it off there is a lot of clicking and clacking going on. Actually any ice car also clicks and clacks when off. I’m sitting in the limo pool right now and all kinds of stuff going on while I type.
OTA updates have killed many 2020+ Corvettes, 2023+ Colorados and now Blazers EV. Good think GM figured this out now -- or have they?
Anyone aware of battery issues with more recent version? I took delivery on Thursday evening (5/30) and drove less than 100 miles. Left vehicle in my garage, unplugged, after it was 80% charged on Sunday afternoon. Tried to drive it to work on Tuesday morning (6/2) but it showed 8% battery life with a message saying vehicle would not start and would not accept charge. Called OnStar and they towed it to the dealer. I received message from the dealer today (6/10) stating they will need to replace the battery by middle of next week. I did not sign up for this BS. Can dealers even replace the battery on these? Is it as simple as an oil change? What gives?
