2002 Chevy Avalanche Base Camp Concept Up For Sale In Canada

Based on the first generation of the Chevy Silverado 1500, the Chevy Avalanche was a standout for its versatile midgate, a design similar to that found in the Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV that allowed drivers to carry longer items. Now, we have the opportunity to purchase a very special unit, as this 2002 Chevy Avalanche Base Camp Concept is currently listed for sale.

Posted for auction on Cars & Bids, this Avalanche is actually a one-of-one concept vehicle designed for the auto show circuit. Currently, the pickup is located in Canada, and features just 2,000 miles.

It’s worth noting that this 2002 Avalanche was sold at Barrett-Jackson in 2006 for $20,900.

Although it may pass as a normal Avalanche at first glance, this Base Camp Concept boasts a few key differences. Starting with the exterior, a yellow paint job is accented by plastic lower cladding, while large bull bar is mounted up front. Roof racks can be found on top, along with unique badging found throughout.

As for rollers, this Avalanche rides on 17-inch wheels.

Moving into the interior is where things start to get quirky with this 2002 Avalanche Base Camp Concept. To that point, a kitchen has actually been integrated into the tailgate, as well as an auxiliary power outlet in the engine bay. The cabin is adorned in cloth and leather upholstery, while a bright yellow Nokia telephone is mounted in the center console.

In case you were wondering, yes, this is how the Base Camp Concept was assembled from General Motors. In fact, the seller notes that the only modifications made are a battery isolator and a daytime running light module.

As for powertrain, this Avalanche is powered by naturally aspirated 6.0L V8 gasoline engine, which mates to the GM four-speed automatic transmission and a 4WD system. Notably, the production-spec first-gen Avalanche was only offered with either the naturally aspired 5.3L V8 LM7 gasoline engine, rated at 285 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, or the naturally aspirated 8.1L V8 L18 gasoline engine, rated at 340 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque.

So, what do you think, dear reader? Is this one-off 2002 Chevy Avalanche Base Camp Concept worth the investment? Let us know what you think in the comment section below!

    • They should’ve just named the EV Avalanche. What a missed opportunity. And they’re not fooling the core Silverado buyers who will stick with gas/diesel for a while longer.

  • This was mine. I had it for sale for like 6 months…finally gave it away because no one wanted it. All sorts of articles and stories written on it but no one wanted it. Bought it as an investment…bad idea. Reminds me of this singing frog on Luney Tunes. Good riddance!!!
