General Motors is considering an expansion of GM’s DMAX manufacturing operations in Brookville, Ohio.
According to a report from Dayton Daily News, the Dayton-Montgomery County board of trustees has voted to green light the expansion of the DMAX plant in Brookville. The new capital lease agreement provides GM the opportunity to expand the project.
It’s worth noting that The General has not yet committed to expansion of the DMAX Brookville plant just yet, and is also considering expanding operations in Flint, Michigan.
“GM is developing a business case for a potential future project,” GM spokesman Daniel Flores was quoted as saying. “DMAX continues to run its normal operating plan, and we have made no announcements that would impact that plan. We have no additional information to share at this time.”
If GM were to take the DMAX Brookville avenue, the project would add 1.1 million-square-feet of manufacturing and shipping space to the existing 250,000-square-foot plant. This type of expansion would involve $281 million in General Motors internal funding.
There has also been some worry that an expansion at the DMAX Brookville plant would siphon jobs away from the GM DMAX Moraine plant in Ohio. With DMAX operations taking place there since the late 1990s, some people are speculating that workers may move from Moraine to Brookville to work the newly-expanded manufacturing plant.
As a reminder, GM purchased 53 acres of land right next to the existing DMAX Brookville plant back in late 2021. Until now, that parcel of land was kept largely untouched.
Serving as a joint venture between General Motors and Isuzu, DMAX – in which GM holds a majority stake – is responsible for the production of the diesel engines found throughout the Detroit-based automaker’s lineup.

Bring it on! I’ve had an order in (but of course, no build allocation) for an Escalade ESV with the in-line, six cylinder Duramax diesel since July 2022. Dealer confirms part / most of the problem is diesel availability from GM. Let’s go, GM. Clearly an in-demand, differentiated product - but GM can’t build it. What’s the problem?
The 3.0 inline 6 Duramax is only built in Flint and is not part of the DMAX production's V8 diesel facility in Ohio.
Spending on ICE manufacturing!? The investment won't yield the returns that a similar EV investment would - certainly not long term. There's an ever increasing demand for EVs - GM is absolutely not preparing for the future.
Even Calalooney is not banning HD ICE trucks yet maybe they see a demand increase.
That’s good, we call it Crazyfornia.
LOL, not sure where you are but where I live there’s almost no demand for EV’s compared to ICE.
Just do it! I think the Duramax engines have a great future in spite of the Dems attempts to kill ICE! Just say NO to EV if you don’t want one. Don’t let the feds push you around. Buy what you want and tell your Reps and Senators to stand up!
I really wish that people would save their political commentary for a different venue. I want to read about cars and trucks not what people think about political parties. Save that for Facebook or Twitter.
Its Brookville by the way. I know because I live a town away from it.
Hopefully new Fuel Blends in Diesel other Fuels. Will bring down too Carbon Neutral soot . Yes many other polluting variable Factors. Underground Mining of Copper Lithium Cobalt Metals or Materials . Have too be done. Put back what you take out . Easier said then done!. All power sources have a place. If it can become fitting in with the planets Just Surface Environment alone. Going too take The Construction and US NAVY . OTHER NAVY S IN OTHER COUNTRIES. Too bring back ice lost in SOUTH NORTH POKES GIANT REFRIGERATOR CHILLERS EVAPORATOR S . ECT MANY VARIABLES. In WW2 . The Rail Road Freight Car System with Shipping could move alot more. Already SPAIN UNDERGROUND TOO MORROCO O. OR TOO NORTH AFRICAIN REGION. Even JAPAN HAS A 33 UNDER GROUND RAILROAD. AS OF COURSE FRANCE TOO ENGLAND. WITH REFREEZING ICE WOULD HELP . YES ALL FUEL SOURCES WOULD HELP. LIKE THE PANAMA CANAL MONUMENTAL TASK. MANY CHEVROLET S FORDS CHRYSLER WOULD BE ON THAT JOB. Hope Chevy like Ford and Chrysler or Dodge . Pay their Workers good in up Comming Contracts in pay benefits . Not get rid of a good temp worker. Fuels have too run cleaner are much better . Have be non polluting. As Recycle of Batteries materials broken down for re use.
Good to see. A lot of driver's do not understand the benefits of diesel engines. The average driver puts the key in the ignition or pushes the start button, shifts the transmission and drives. They do not understand the importance of fluid maintenance, tire rotation, inspection checks, etc. After three years or so, they trade their vehicle for a new unit. Having and understanding a diesel engine versus a gasoline engine is like eating prime rib versus eating baloney.
Please correct your article.
The plant is located in Brookville, not Brockville.
Very interesting.
I'm thinking gm is going to come out with an i6 to replace the current v8 platform.. the v has lived out its usefulness.. wait and see..
