The following table shows the current lineup of America’s 10 most affordable cars, based on MSRP plus the destination freight charge, and the optional automatic transmission, if applicable.

2024 Chevy Trax Pricing vs. Competition

Among the competitors to the 2024 Chevy Trax compact crossover, the Mitsubishi Mirage is available as a five-door hatchback and a four-door sedan equipped with several standard and optional safety features such as pedestrian collision warning and automatic high beam headlights.

The Kia Rio is offered as a five-door hatchback and a four-door sedan much like the Mirage, while the Forte is a sedan and the Soul is a crossover. The Nissan Versa and Sentra are sedans, while the Nissan Kicks is a crossover. Hyundai produces the Elantra as a sedan and the Venue as a crossover.

The all-new 2024 Chevy Trax offers five trim levels, starting with the 1LS at $21,495. The 1RS and 1LT follow at $23,195 and $23,395, respectively, while the 2RS and Activ sit at the top of the lineup, both starting at $24,995. Prices include destination freight charge (DFC).

As GM Authority has previously detailed, the Trax also offers four available optional packages, seven standalone options, and three extra-charge colors at release.

The 2024 Chevy Trax continues Chevrolet’s more than century-old tradition of producing some of the most affordable cars available in the U.S. The company has always included budget-friendly models alongside pricier options such as the Chevy Corvette. Up until it was discontinued, the Chevrolet Spark had the distinction of being the lowest-priced car in the U.S. market.

As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Trax is motivated by a single engine option, the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine developing 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Under the skin, the new 2024 Chevy Trax rides on the GM VSS-F vehicle set.

Production of the 2024 Chevy Trax takes place at the GM Changwon plant in South Korea and will begin at the GM Bupyeong plant as well during the second quarter.

  1. I know people will complain that it doesn’t have AWD or that it’s missing a couple niceties here and there, but I think people are going to buy these up like crazy. They look amazing. Low, wide, and aggressive is not a set of adjectives often associated with a $25K car these days. But not only does it look good, it has utility and the interior looks way more upscale than it should at this price point (piping on the seats, strips of color, chrome, etc.). GM hit this one out of the park.

    1. You don’t have to be a nannies princess to own a car

  2. Agreed! Kia Soul is closet rival for utility. It’s a really attractive vehicle. Swore I’d never drive a CUV/SUV but this is an exception.
I’m in market. Ultimately, will probably buy a last gen Honda Civic (not into new simple design) but Trax is a consideration. I still refuse to absorb the depreciation of new so buy roughly one model year behind.
GM (& FCA) have the best handling & aren’t flooded with road noise. On that list Nissan Sentra isn’t horrible but not for me.

  3. This will sell in good numbers and it seems like GM knows it. But I’m going to go back a ways in life and I know there would be adjustments for inflation etc. But this article made me think of this and I wanted to share.

Back in 1980, my uncle who was a very big man and always drove large cars, owned small used car lot and showed up with a nearly new 1979 Lincoln Town Car Collectors Series. That car was gorgeous draped in dark navy blue with subtle gold accenting. It had the matching dark blue 1/2 top and blue leather seats. The car was only 8 months old when he got it with less than 10K on the odo. As a very young boy, I just recall how large and luxurious that thing was. But here’s the reason this story made me think of that car. When uncle Al stopped in to show us his Lincoln, I recall him pulling the original window sticker out of the glove box. This fully loaded 1979 Lincoln had an MSRP of +/- $19,000.00!!

Now here we are today thinking that a small crossover with cloth and a few features is a deal at $22,000. My how things have changed.

  4. The Trax offers excellent value, but the price creeps up as you climb the trims, even overlapping the base model Equinox.

    1. It’s still under 30k at the highest trim

  5. No wonder Kia/Hyundai are all over the roads in my area of NE MS, five of the top 10 lowest priced vehicles available. This is still very important, especially in today’s messed up economy.

  6. I agree , but in 1979 I earned about 30k a year , in 2021 the last year I worked, close to 200k
if i had a job the same as in 79 the salary would be about 110k today
    in 79 I bought a new Chev impala for $10,500. ( had extras )
If GM made the Impala today , likely around $40k for the equivelant to what I had in 79
so while the numbers are higher today , it seems to be comparable.

  8. This will be a hit . Very affordable with good interior and plenty of space that can seat 4 very comfortably . Now if we can get them build compact truck around the same price range .

  9. there is people who needs under 19K car

    1. If that’s their max budget, they need to accept that a used car is their best option. There’s no entitlement to a new car.

Or, get another job that will allow them to fit a new car in their budget.

      1. GMC Fan: I feel what you said is really the truest form of “entitlement. Either that or the result of living a snobbish life. Who the heck are you to say that lower income folks shouldn’t be able to buy a new car? Not only that, but in today’s market you still don’t get much for under 20 grand. Lastly, having a lower priced entry vehicle (like the Spark) was a way to get someone into the brand at a younger age and hopefully keep them for years or life. Those same people would most likely move up the income ladder and thus be more likely to afford the more expensive models later on.

        1. I’m with you on that one Dan! Even if I won at the lottery this year, not enough to stop working by the way, I know that the inflation period we live in is a b!tch, so I take care of my money, budget and all. His attitude is not right when speaking about people that we should just have used cars! Even if I had minimum wages here where I live … I’ve always been able to afford new cars but now the auto industry is acting like this 20K car market is not worth for them and they forget that this is an important market.. look in Europe the small car market is still alive.

  10. You have the right to have your opinion and mine too… But if this the way you think, you wouldn’t have a first affordable car to start with.

    1. No AWD. Bummer

  11. Kia and Hyundai have the common decency of letting you option them with their more powerful engines. When you compare horsepower-to-dollar, they destroy Trax.

Either VSS-F can’t handle high output, or GM is arbitrarily holding back. Neither is a good look.

  12. GM did a great job on this car, going toe to toe with Kia. But Kia is still also selling you the confidence of a 10 yr/100,000 powertrain warranty and a 5/60K on everything else.

  13. The Bolt EV starts at $26,500 and with the tax credit drops down to $19k putting it in 4th place on this list. Should be worth a mention in the article.

  14. Add on top local state incentives which range from $2500 to $7000, could drop that to make it the most affordable car on the list.
