The 2023 Chevy Colorado got its big reveal last July, with General Motors unveiling a brand-new third-generation pickup truck with revised styling, an overhauled cabin, a fresh powertrain, and an updated model line. With regard to the model line, the third-gen now offers the Colorado Trail Boss as a standalone trim level. Now, we’re taking a closer look at the 2023 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss in the following exclusive GM Authority walkaround video.
Hosted by GM Authority Executive Editor Alex Luft, the video is a little over nine minutes long and includes in-depth information on the various features on offer, as well as a long look at the 2023 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss styling and design.
Prior to the introduction of the third-generation Chevy Colorado for the 2023 model year, the Colorado Trail Boss was offered as a package upgrade for LT and Z71 trim levels. Now, however, the 2023 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss is a standalone trim level that slots in between the base-level WT (Work Truck) trim level and the mid-range LT trim level.
Standard features for the new 2023 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss include standard 18-inch High Gloss Black Aluminum wheels wrapped in Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires. The exterior is also equipped with Black Bow Tie badging, as well as a black grille and black grille surround, plus black for the door handles, fascia, and belt moldings. A Trail Boss badge is found in the grille, while Trail Boss decals are added to the rear fenders.
As for the mechanical bits, the 2023 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss features the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, specifically the mid-range 2.7L Turbo Plus variant. Output is rated at 310 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque, while max trailering it set at 7,700 pounds. The updated GM 8-speed automatic transmission and a two-speed auto transfer case combine with standard four-wheel drive to put the power down.

Have they cleared EPA testing and begun shipping?
Yes, but shipping is slow going.
Yeah they are going to dealers.
Odd you mention EPA. The fuel economy on these trucks aren’t very impressive. I hope GM can fit the 3.0L Duramax under the hood. The 2.7L turbo I-4 gasser doesn’t seem to return good MPG.
Mine was produced 3/28 I’m hopefully it shows up in June 🫠
I’m waiting for the “Who’s the Boss” Edition…..
Mine was made Feb 14th and still in Missouri.
As always, nice review Alex. I think I’m warming up to that color.
My local dealer got a Trailboss in last week. Spitzer Chevrolet in Northfield, OH.
Well it seems they have made a few trucks and took lots of pictures. Where are they ? When can the average truck buyer expect to actually see and test drive one. It’s interesting that they’ll be a year old soon. They’re probably arguing over how much more they can charge for these rare vehicles.
How is it GM can call the truck Trailboss, yet make skid plates an option? Maybe it should be called GravelRoadBoss?
Looks like a great product.
A little odd that the TFL guy’s $40,000 truck didn’t have cruise control.
My theory on why Jimmie Johnson’s cup team switched to Toyota’s is that Jimmie ordered a new Trail Boss and after waiting for 4 months for delivery he said the hell with it, lets go over to Toyota where I know that Coach can get us a new truck a lot faster.
Just kidding, but my Trail Boss is still somewhere called Wentzville in Missouri. I ordered some extra after market accessories like side steps which are taking up a lot of space in my garage….
