GM’s New Wuling Asta HEV Officially Goes On Sale In China

Just weeks after launching the new Wuling Asta HEV in China, SAIC-GM-Wuling has just announced that Wuling’s the first electrified crossover has officially gone on sale in the Chinese market.

General Motors’ second joint venture in China launched the new Wuling Asta HEV as the first hybrid model in its history, announcing that the fuel-efficient vehicle represents the expansion start of the popular brand’s new energy vehicle (NEV) portfolio. China. As such, the company seeks to meet customers’ efficiency expectations in the Asian country’s entry-level vehicle market.

Notably, the new Wuling Asta HEV goes on sale in China in two versions named Electric Power and Electric Speed, with specific powertrain calibrations. Both feature SGMW’s new hybrid powertrain comprised of a dedicated 2.0L naturally aspirated engine as well as a high-performance electric motor and battery, generating an output of 134 horsepower and a remarkable 236 pound-feet of torque.

The automaker claims that the Wuling Asta HEV’s powertrain combination offers a range of more than 1,100 kilometers (683.5 miles) on a full tank of fuel, delivering a class-leading city driving average of just 4.6 L/100 km or 51 mpg. At the same time, the high torque and electromagnetic Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) allows the Asta HEV to accelerate from 0 to 60 km/h or 0 to 37 mph in 3.2 seconds.

In addition, the new Wuling Asta HEV incorporates a long list of technology and safety equipment as standard, including a generous 10.25-inch infotainment screen with Wuling’s new Ling OS connectivity system, a full-mode 360-degree HD camera system, automatic parking assistance and proximity alert sensors, as well as an optional large panoramic sunroof.

The new Wuling Asta HEV is now available from the brand’s extensive dealer network in China, where SGMW plans to continue expanding the lineup of electrified models in the coming months, including future production of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The Asta HEV Electric Power is priced at 99,800 yuan ($14,530 USD at current exchange rates), while the Electric Speed is priced at 109,800 yuan ($15,980 USD).
