As GM Authority announced last week, the SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) joint venture in China has just officially launched the new Wuling Asta HEV in the Asian country.
The new Wuling Asta HEV arrives on the Chinese market as the first hybrid-powertrain vehicle developed by SGMW, created to meet the efficiency demands of entry-level family vehicle consumers in the country. This new version will expand the next-generation compact crossover offering from GM’s most popular brand in China, which is also known internally as the Wuling Xing Chen.
As we highlighted in our previous report, the main novelty of the Wuling Asta HEV is SGMW’s newly developed hybrid powertrain system, which consists of an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. Both components will work together with a new 2.0L naturally aspirated engine to generate a maximum output of 134 horsepower and a remarkable 236 pound-feet of torque.
This powertrain is exclusively coupled to a new, state-of-the-art electromagnetic Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), which, according to the brand, adopts notable technical novelties to ensure efficient operation such as P1+P3 dual motor series parallel architecture, urban electric drive, High-speed direct drive and up to 98 percent comprehensive transmission efficiency.
Aside from the mechanical updates, the Wuling Asta HEV is basically the same as the regular version of the model first released last year with the vehicle’s “dynamic wing aesthetic” design language bearing the Wuling Global Silver logo. However, the HEV version will introduce a new Polar Ice Blue exterior color and a Glacier White inductively textured interior, including a crystal-like gear lever to the range.
The Wuling Asta HEV is expected to be available from the end of this month throughout the extensive network of Wuling dealers in China, and its price and final range will be announced in the coming days. The manufacturer started a special pre-sale program so that customers affiliated with the Wuling Ling Club have special benefits for the purchase of the Asta HEV.

This model looks similar in size to a Chevy Trail Blazer . The dash and infotainment looks modern , and i believe from the pic that the model has a rear independent suspension. This model i am sure could sell as a Chevy in other markets.
It’s a little bit closer to the Equinox in dimensions, but it’s one inch narrower and 3 inches taller, giving it that small-CUV look.
It’s significantly underpowered at 134hp, but It’s important to keep in mind that the gas version sells for only $15,000. I’m surprised that SAIC-GM-Wuling is making hybrids while the American gm doesn’t.
I think you mean, “I’m surprised that the American gm doesn’t make hybrids when almost everyone else does”
Yes, everyone else, including even GM in China. Hybrid technology would benefit the GM lineup in North America, especially in these times.
no, better saying : “I’m surprised that Gm doesn’t make hybrids-EV-Ethanol when almost everyone wants”
US$ 15,000 is too much… for US$ 10,000 seems appropriate, €³ for us …
It is not Ugly, but also not Beautiful… Interior better than Exterior !
Funny … I thought queen mary said GM was out of the hybrid vehicle market, and were either ICE or BEV.
well … in Brasil all GM cars, SUVs and Pickups are ICE, flexi motor ethanol… there is no EV, neither hybrid
Long live hybrids and plug-in hybrids
