GM Cancels 2022 GMC Yukon Denali Performance Black Package

The 2022 GMC Yukon is the second model year of the latest fifth-generation vehicle, offering a few changes and updates over the initial 2021 model year. Originally, the 2022 GMC Yukon Denali was poised to offer the new Denali Performance Package, enhancing the SUV with a few exterior styling and brake upgrades, as GM Authority covered previously. Now, however, the Denali Performance Package has been canceled.

It’s unclear at this time why General Motors chose to cancel the 2022 GMC Yukon Denali Performance Package, or if it will be reintroduced at a later time.

Originally, the package was tagged with RPO code RGF, and was set to be offered as an LPO-level option, which means it would have been installed by the dealer, as opposed to at the factory when the vehicle was initially produced. Content originally slated to be bundled with the 2022 GMC Yukon Denali Performance Package included (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):

  • 22-inch 6-Spoke Low Gloss Black Wheels with Machined Accents, LPO (RPO SEV)
  • Black GMC emblems, LPO (RPO SFZ)
  • Black nameplate, LPO (RPO RIK)
  • Front 6-Piston Brembo Brake Upgrade with Color Matched Rear Calipers, LPO (RPO 5JL)

The 2022 GMC Yukon Denali Performance Package was set to be offered exclusively for Yukon Denali and Yukon Denali XL trim levels, with late availability in the 2022 model year. Now, however, General Motors has canceled the optional package outright.

The 2022 GMC Yukon Denali Performance Package isn’t the only new option that’s been deleted. Additionally, the 2022 GMC Yukon Black nameplate (RPO code RIK) and Black GMC emblems (RPO code SFZ) were also deleted from the options list. Both features were previously set to be offered as LPO-level options.

Further changes expected for the 2022 GMC Yukon include deletion of the Dark Sky Metallic and Smokey Quartz Metallic exterior colors, while Redwood Metallic will join the exterior colors list. The latest Yukon will also come standard with Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning and a new 12-inch digital instrument cluster.
