2020 GMC Sierra HD Teased, Will Launch In Second Half Of 2019

General Motors has released the first teaser image for the upcoming new 2020 GMC Sierra HD.

The teaser image is a zoomed in shot of the revamped heavy duty pickup’s intricate LED headlamp. It also shows off a portion of the large chrome grille. One interesting section is where the grille protrudes into the headlight, framing a smaller light within it. There’s also an ‘HD’ logo embedded within the lighting assembly near the indicators.

GM says the 2020 GMC Sierra HD will debut in the second half of 2019. It’s not clear when sales might commence, but we imagine the first customers will be taking delivery late in the year. That means the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD and Sierra HD should go on sale at around the same time.

Just like the Silverado HD, the Sierra HD will ride on GM’s updated new T1 truck platform. Under the hood will likely be the same new engines that will be on offer in the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD. Those being the new 6.6-liter gasoline engine and a 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V8.

You can expect the interior of the 2020 GMC Sierra HD to mimic the interior of the 2020 GMC Sierra 1500. That means not many changes will be in store over the outgoing GMC Sierra HD. There will be more cabin space, however, with the new generation of GM HD trucks gaining an additional 3 inches of legroom on crew cab models.

As always, a lavishly appointed GMC Sierra HD Denali variant is expected to arrive eventually as well. GM will have to step up in a big way for the Sierra HD Denali, with the 2020 Ram HD arriving with impressive available luxury options, including a huge 12-inch portrait style touchscreen, a 17-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, active noise cancelation system and acoustic glass, among more.

  • In lieu of Cadillac not having a truck, the Denali should have Cadillac level(or better) interiors.

    • I fully agree the Denali should have a Cadillac level interior. Unfortunately they still have a long way to go. When Rams off road truck has a more luxurious interior than a Denali there is clearly an issue. GM has a ton of models to cover the everyday and work truck markets. The Denali should be the luxury market high bar period! On a positive note the front clip of the new Denali HD appears to be nice looking.

  • I'm hoping it'll look as great as the 1500 GMC does. This could be my next truck some day, single cab 3500 GMC flatbed.

  • That's a lot of chrome. I would love to see a version similar to the AT4 with more of the grill painted to match the truck.

    • Chrome, not Denali level chrome, but normal chrome is my favorite. I really like your idea and would also love to see a AT4 style HD. Nobody has anything like that. On Ram and Ford heavies your options are chrome or black ugly plastic. A non chrome, but still very classy AT4 style would definitely shake up styling in the HD market.

      • Ram will have sport packages and black packages for the Big Horn and Laramie HDs that are exactly what you described. They have painted grilles, bumpers, and accents, not chrome or black plastic.

  • I sure hope there stalling this out to improve the dash center look. It is my opinion that it would not take a lot. At least in the Denali. GM is really testing loyalty lately.

    Can't wait to see it.
