This is badddd news for GM. With the company relying on China sales more than ever, a sales slip like this is not a good sign. Even with the economy slowing, this is a big drop.
BBC.com has an interesting story about ‘why the Chinese are buying fewer cars’.
The lead interviewee is a Cadillac dealer in Shanghai – there are 4 or 5 elements leading to the downturn.
The trade war and Chinese anger must play a part here. GM may well end up an Americas company strong in the US and Brazil. This is why selling Opel, while great for Wall Street, was long-term bad for the Company. GM was fairly close to brake even and should have simply done some of PSA’s quite obvious cost cutting measures. Russelheim could have been used. For all future crossovers as it had been for sedans. It was Opel design that uped GM quality ranking.
What’s with the Mickey Mouse theme in that car display? A special, limited edition trim package unique to China? Looks like Mickey engraved on a headrest??
Whatever floats your boat I suppose. There were VW Golf special editions in the 1990s in Europe that displayed in big , bold letters, “Bon Jovi”, “Manhattan”, or “Rolling Stones”.
I forgot one, the VW Golf “JOKER”. True story. Look it up. They were everywhere.
It’s the Chevy Orlando… hence the Mickey Mouse Disney theme (Disney World in Orlando, FL).
