Dude, Where’s My Car? Apple iOS10 Remembers Where You Parked

Happy iPhone 7 launch day, everyone. To celebrate, we’ve highlighted one of the new nifty features Apple iPhone users can take advantage of now with the latest operating system update.

iOS10 launched three days ago and added plenty of new features for users. But the one that’s relevant for us drivers is Apple Map’s ability to remember where your car is parked, according to Apple Insider. The feature is active automatically and activates for any trip that does not end at the user’s home address. It simply drops a pin where the car was left last.

So, as you wait in line at your local Apple retailer for a chance at snatching up one of the latest technological gadgets, know iOS10 will help you keep your car in safe keeping. Meanwhile, yours truly will be waiting until mid-October for a Jet Black example…

  • This isn't an Android vs iOS comment. But if you have an Android phone, the official Google Now launcher from Google has offered this feature for a long time. Download in the Play Store and from the home page swipe right to enter your full Google Now assistant. 'Cards' are populated automatically to cater to each user, tracks your fights, purchases, articles you've read, *where you parked*, eta to places you frequent, stocks, etc.

    • On Android it knows you're driving based on background GPS. So if i go to a hockey game with a friend/their car, and come out it still knows where we parked. And because Google Maps knows bus stops/routes, I don't think it mistakes bus/public transit for actual personal vehicle transportation. Can't say for sure, don't use public transit.

      • Not sure if sarcasm... However, Windows Mobile aka Windows Phone is a phone OS. And as an Apple fanboy I must say it works pretty well very fluid. Not much app support however. Now I think M$ is giving it the ax.

        • I was just pointing out that Windows Phone had this feature a long time. MS is not killing the WP since it's part of Windows and their overall Universal platform strategy. I have nothing against Apple. Great hardware. But it's annoying that every time Apple introduces a feature the press acts like they invented it.

  • Maybe it's me being spatially orientated, but I've never bought into the idea that a parked car can become lost in a parking lot; that all this "find my car" stuff is really needless and gimmicky.
