Cadillac ATS Sales Rise 1.14 Percent To 2,477 Units In August 2016

Cadillac ATS deliveries in the United States totaled 2,477 units in August 2016, an increase of 1.14 percent compared to the 2,449 units sold in August 2015.

In the first eight months of 2016, sales of the ATS — including the ATS Sedan and ATS Coupe — have dropped 13.20 percent to 14,360 units.

In Canada, the ATS recorded 219 deliveries in August 2016, down 47.61 percent compared to August 2015. In the first eight months of the year, sales of the vehicle totaled 1,553 units in Canada, down 25.66 percent compared to the first eight months of 2015.

  • Pleasantly surprised that the US market saw a small year over year increase.
    Cadillac needs to do a MCE and update the instrument cluster/dash area and do a V-Sport model.
    That shouldn't cost them a arm and a leg but will address a major complaint on the current model and boost interest leading to more sales.

    • Sadly a five year old model has bigger issues than a gauge cluster and an in between performance model.

      Cadillac is nowhere close to having a decent conquest rate. With that being said, you have long term GM customers probably a very high percentage the "old" Cadillac buyers and there is little or nothing in the ATS to appeal to them.

      It is a tiny vehicle with next to no legroom and rear door/roof design guaranteeing anyone over 5 foot will smack their heads getting in.

      Furthermore, the vast majority purchasing are not enthusiast and are far more concerned with quality and reliability ratings which are poor. Believe ATS owners have rated reliability poor every year it has been sold--in CR. My personal experience ecohed theirs. My $55K 2014 Premium was borderline junk! I would not own another ATS or recommend in current design. The ATS is damaged goods, sales will continue downward, the only salvation a total redesign!

      • Agree that there are bigger issues than the dash which is why I specified MCE instead of total redesign. Stretching the chassis to get more rear seat/legroom, changing the roof line better egress and making the trunk larger are to expensive engineering improvements for a MCE.
        Cadillac will address those issues when the complete redesign occurs (if this model survives for a 2nd generation).

        Calling the vehicle the model 'borderline junk' is a little excessive though. The ATS is esthetically good and has vehicle dynamics (handling and performance) on par or better than the rest of the segment.

        • My ATS was borderline junk and I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt! Seven safety recalls, delivered from factory with delaminating windshield requiring replacement, blind side alert mirror warning light that stayed lit even with car off resulting in module replacement. defective steering knuckles ,dic replaced, camshaft position actuator solenoid valve replaced. This was a car owned from new for 29 months with approximately 29,000 miles. Meticulous care and maintenance with no hard miles!

          • Isn't that funny Smrek? People down-thumbing actual observed truth, 3 so far. You report your actual lived experience, and people think you are "bad". This is why we have Trillary (Trump/Hillary) for an election.

          • You had a bad unit and there were probably others who had similar experiences but hardly do I think that is indicative of every unit produced in the last 4 years.

          • What I'm detailing is a product not the standard of the world. And as you say I'm not alone as reflected in CR owners ratings every year produced and confirmed in sales figures that have been mediocre at best.

            If you are unable to consistently produce quality vehicles sales will be that much more of a struggle! Until Cadillac nails that basic, they are fighting a steep uphill battle!

          • Do you really believe that every vehicle produced by MB, BMW, Lexus, etc. are all free of any defects or do not ever require a return to the dealership for repair?
            Come on.
            Every new car sold has a warranty from a Lada to a Lamborghini because there is a reasonable possibility of a defect with that vehicle.

            It is statistically impossible to manufacture hundreds of thousands or millions of anything and not have a percentage of those products not have defect.

          • Until Cadillac improves reliability/quality there will nominal conquest sales. And frankly Cadillac will start losing blindly loyal customers because the current models are not generally what long-time customers want.

            If you think Cadillac's quality/reliability reputation is comparable to BMW, Mercedes, and Audi, drink another glass of the Kool-aid! For that matter Cadillac can't even compete with the cheaper Lexus.

            Owners in CR consistently rate All major competitors higher. Cadillac has only one model better than poor and that is the CTS.

            Just this week saw the results of ACSI and Cadillac is near the very bottom fighting with FCA models. The only "luxury" model below Cadillac is Acura. BMW is either 2 or 3 overall.

            Until quality/reliability or that perception changes Cadillac will not be successful with conquest sales.

            If I wanted a warranty rather than a reliable vehicle, I would opt for a Hyundai.

          • By the way, don't believe it will be anytime soon in the US that Cadillac will have to worry about producing hundred of thousands or millions of anything!

            Need to concentrate on handling quality of 25,000--30,000 ATSs!

  • the ATS needs to be radically redesigned.....not only it looks boring as hell, it also looks cheap inside and out and its cramped......every Caddy in the lineup look tired in the exterior design stand point.

    • Yes the ATS has some major issues to make it more competitive but it is not a piece of junk as some suggest.

      Tell us what you really think about the exterior design.

      • The exterior design of the ATS sedan is extraordinarily beautiful, one of the best designs ever. The coupe? Meh. Not enough tumblehome, making it look square. Please down-thumb me just below.

  • I think the exterior design is vary meh.....the profile looks fat and weird with a high beltline and fat rear....I've always thought yesterdays Caddys look much better than todays Caddys....I looked at the new XT5 and its just tired and meh because it still has that wedged shaped profile or slab-sides Cadillac had for many years.

    • This coming from someone who thinks that the 1970's were the height of Cadillac's styling, and that the styling needs to return when nobody asked for it to.

  • I don't think the ATS styling is why it doesn't sell particularly well. It looks like a chopped down CTS, and the CTS looks great - but shortening the CTS makes the ATS look a little weird rather than elegant. The main problems though (IMO) are that it's a tiny car for a Cadillac - it's 10" shorter than the current Chevy Malibu! And with a virtually unusable rear seat at 33.5", there's no way most people would want to pay the asking price Cadillac wants for the ATS.

    Additionally, the short length combined with Cadillac's relentless push for RWD cars with "sports ride" (whether Cadillac customers want them or not), means that the ATS has an unusually harsh ride and serious problems in snow and other slippery surfaces. So what if it can weave in and out of traffic on dry pavement, all this does not add up to "luxury" in the minds of most Americans.

    The ATS tries to be the BMW 3-series. But if people want the BMW experience, they are going to buy BMW. Build something else! The market is telling Cadillac this, but will Cadillac's non-American executives listen? Or will they continue to try to remake Caddy into a second rate German-wannabe company instead of a first-rate American one? Americans like bigger cars than Europeans and Japanese generally, no Cadillac should be this small. What's next, Cadillac will go after that ridiculous BMW i3? Noooo, GM has Chevy to make tiny cars (and electric cars); whatever Cadillac is, it's not a compact car brand.

    If Cadillac wants to make a small(ish) car, especially a coupe, they should make it at least 187" long (it's under 183" now, the CTS is 196"), with at least 37" of rear leg room (BMW manages 35" in their 182" 3 series F30). My preference for this would be on the Buick Regal/Chevy Malibu platform, but if they want to continue RWD then maybe they can figure out how to make a longer version of the current ATS, with more rear legroom. And soften the ride! And stop trying to match BMW car-for-car! Be a leader, not a follower - be Cadillac!

  • Agreed.....the ATS doesn't look as premium as the BMW 3 and it's just a wanabee bmw 3.....I sat in the ATS and my head almost scrapped the ceiling....its a cramped tuna can on wheels.......I would like to see the ATS burn in the fire over a much bigger car.
