Corvette C7.R Gets Additional 10 Kg Of Weight Under IMSA Sebring BoP Adjustments

IMSA has announced its Balance of Performance adjustments for the 2016 12 Hours of Sebring next month, with Corvette Racing’s Corvette C7.R receiving an additional 10 kilograms of weight and a 0.4mm smaller air restrictor, according to Sportscar365.

The BoP adjustments come as no surprise after the No. 4 C7.R of Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner and Marcel Fassler and No. 3 C7.R of Jan Magnussen, Antonio Garcia and Mike Rockenfeller took a dominant 1-2 finish at Daytona last month. The No.3 C7.R also set the fastest lap of the race at 1:44.012, while the No. 4 car was second with a lap of 1:44.563.

IMSA also made other BoP adjustments in the GTLM class, with the Ford GT receiving an additional 10 kg of weight and the Porsche 911 losing 10 kg. The Ford also got a maximum boost decrease, while the BMW M6 GTLM was permitted for a boost increase.

In the prototype category, it’s good news for Chevy’s Daytona Prototype, with IMSA giving it a 10 kg weight reduction and a 0.3mm larger air restrictor. The Daytona-winning Ligier JS P2 Honda, meanwhile, received a boost decrease.

The 2016 12 Hours of Sebring will go green on March 21st at 10:40 a.m.

  • IMSA totally sucks!!!! If Porsche can't hang, maybe they just need to go back to the drawing boards.....

    • Every car in the gt class, corvette lead some part of the race so why does imsa penalize corvette?
Because imsa and the crybaby foreign teams bitch about corvette how unfair it is that they, the foreign teams, cant beat corvette team.
Corvette racing win because they are team players. The cars, drivers, pit crews and crew cheif are the best and imsa and the crybaby foreign teams cant beat corvette because they spend all their time crying to imsa.
Go corvette, show the crybabies how its done. Lets see another triple crown.
Thank you for letting corvette teams race to the finish at daytona. That is the best race i have ever seen. Thank you for not making # 3 & 4 follow the leader like nascar teams do.

  • This is just stupid, they should set the rules package at the beginning of the year and be done with it. If one team wins every race then so be it!

  • These on going, race to race BOP adjustments are pure BS! If you work hard and gain an advantage you should earn the right to to lead the pack. It should be up to the others to find a way to catch up. If adjustments are warranted make them at the end of the year. Over regulation is killing all auto racing.

  • This takes out quite a bit of initiative from each of the race teams in the ongoing pursuit of "equality." Every time a team delivers a stellar performance they are "penalized" in the pursuit of Balance of Performance. Kinda takes the fun out of it doesn't it?

Might as well give everyone identical Mini-Coopers and let them have at it.

  • Well they have taken the advantage away from Corvette the last two years in August and gave away the championship both years.

I know many are tired of the IMSA games. I understand rules changes to level the field but too often they change them and still not make things even.

I understand they want to keep MFG happy but they need to learn how to level the field and so it in small steps to were it is equal. Now watch as Porsche will go out and win the next 5 races.

This is just what made MFGs leave other series and they end up dying. Can AM and Trans Am died several times because of this poor management of the rules.

It gets to the point there is little incentive to work on your car. You are better off getting beat and then let the others get the weight added.

If I were Pratt and Miller I would be sure to sand bag in the future.

If Porsche is not happy then tell them to bring a bigger knife to the fight.

  • This insanity has permeated the entire world. It's like the U.S. school athletic programs.....each player gets a trophy for participation.....no real winners, no real losers. God forbid if someones feelings get hurt. Why penalize those that have produced a winning combination of driver and car? I can't fathom how slowing down a winning combination can be seen as a level field. It's anti-racing and goes against human nature to rise to a challenge. Why not just separate the slower cars to a different class and let the faster cars run a real race?

  • Here is the deal. Racing has a problem with cost and return for MFG. It has had this since the 60's.

MFG's do not want to be left out but they also have to face rules that help keep the cost down. Case in point the 917-30 came to Can Am and dominated to the point few others could compete financially.

So they ban the car and ran off Porsche. Not a good way to regulate.

Today they add weight as The Trans Am series has and this is not always instituted well. Ans leads to failures as we see here.

Then we have like in Indy car set rules so strict that all the cars are the same.

Or you can let them all run what ever they can afford and then you end up with F1 where teams are struggling to pay the bills outside a couple teams.

It all comes down to management of the series and it is not easy. Some do it better and some do not. NASCAR has not always hit it right but if they make a mistake they appear to change it fast. Some other series could learn from this. The Car of Tomorrow was wrong and it was gone in a short while.

MFG exposure is important and controlling cost at this point is a must as both are series killers. Just look at the NHRA as they struggle with cost. Racing in all series is at a point of great challenge the key for them to move forward will be rules management and those that do it well will thrive those who do not will fail.

It will be interesting to see if GM remains here if this continues. I can see them growing tired of this and they may not be the only one.

    • Why would gm quit????
Google race results for corvette racing and see just how many wins they have in the last 11 years even with imsa and the foriegn crybabies.
Corvette racing is stomping on them even with their unfair rules. I know because of these unfair practices corvette racing was pushed out of last 2 season championships but corvette still is whipping tha pants off of them.

  • Jerry above has hit it on the head... If a team or organization works hard and has a great working product instead of everyone else having to try new things and become better they penalize the winning teams. I do agree if they broke rules to dominate then they should be penalized. If they just raised the bar that high compared to everyone else then step up or get run over. As a competitor is it better to win because you were truly better or because they slowed the winner enough so you were faster? Not everyone wins or gets a trophy... and yes 2nd is the first loser....
